A question about Debian
Hello,
I want to install Dovecot CE on a new machine fitted with a Debian Trixie and there is no Dovecot repository for Trixie.
Is a Trixie-friendly version planned for the near future?
Regards
JPP

You can install from source for now.
Is a Trixie-friendly version planned for the near future?
Obviously.

CE is imho Dovecot Pro, while the other in Trixie is the free opensource
CE version is also misssing in Gentoo Portage, sadly Binhost is supported on gentoo, but it needs some that are willing to provide binaries
for now i keep dovecot v2.3, and still think v2.4 is very scarry :(

maybe I'm wrong, but according to: https://doc.dovecot.org/main/ I think that Debian provides the packages of the CE (Community Edition).

I'm still using Bookworm with 2.3.x. Debian packages.

May I suggest using a container? The container technology is intended to make life so much simpler in an ecosystem full of different distributions, library versions and package systems/formats.
Just install podman and pull docker.io/dovecot/dovecot:2.4.1 - 2.4.1 has a nasty bug, regression or something you do not like? just grab 2.3.21.1 - or maybe you fully trust the developers, keep using dovecot:latest-2.4
Regards, Robert

That just pulls the latest _release_. The version in Debian carries some important patches not yet included in any upstream release.
Distros sometimes fall behind but often they do still live up to their traditional role.

$ sudo apt install dovecot-imapd (dovecot-popd3d ...)
That's it. Dovecot CE is packaged and maintained directly within Debian.

that's what I'm doing for many years and I'm still happy with it, never had a problem. :-)
