Re: [Dovecot] Can't connect to auth server at default: Resource temporarily unavailable

But 'dovecot -n' will be more useful.
dovecot doesn't seem to like "-n"
It must work. # "dovecot -n" command gives a clean output of the changed settings. Use it # instead of copy&pasting this file when posting to the Dovecot mailing list.
Which service do you use to authenticate users?
saslauthd from cyrus
Sorry, I don't use it, but I think the problem is there.

# dovecot -n Usage: dovecot [-F] [-c <config file>] [-p] [--exec-mail <protocol>] [--version] [--build-options] Fatal: Unknown argument: -n

Cyrus SASL is older than dovecot's SASL, so I don't think the problem is here.
Interestingly, installing nscd hides the problem. Perhaps a race condition?

Sorry, I can't help you with SASL. Maybe somebody can...

Well, this is ancient...
At first I'd try a recent released version.

Unfortunately I can't keep chasing the latest version, I needed to pick a version and stick with it. I stuck with the version in Ubuntu LTS.
Does anyone have any others ideas?

Its not a matter of 'chasing the latest version', its a matter of the release you are using is A-N-C-I-E-N-T...
I needed to pick a version and stick with it.
If you decide to stick with beta3, don't expect much help here.

Don't they have special repos for back-ported packages? I'd be checking everywhere trying to find at *least a 1.0, if not 1.0.2...

Well' my point was that you're using an outdated, unstable and unsupported development version which was never really meant to be used for production usage.
I understand that people do not want to track bleeding edge software on their servers, but I'd rather prefer to stick with a stable release than with an old development version which is known to be buggy...
Does anyone have any others ideas?
Unfortunately, I do not. :-(
