[Dovecot] 1.0 Release?
Timo,
What are you thoughts on when we might see 1.0?
Thanks,
John

I think nobody knows, but the latest RC is pretty stable. I have not problem at all in: Centos 4.4 + sendmail + procmail + Maildir + dovecot

I have avoided reporting anything until I could narrow down the issue, but with dovcot cvs as of yesterday morning I still get timeout errors and failure to move email around in Thunderbird.
I've seen a few others reporting on various Thunderbird involved issues, but nothing anyone has said seems to actually fix the problem.
Currently, I am running without SSL/TLS and it seems to work slightly better, but I still have to restart Thunderbird v1.5.0.8 quite a few times every day in order to clean things up so mail actually will open and copy between imap-based folders.
Others using this same email server but run M$ Outhouse have similar issues - mainly just copying email to the Sent folder though.

This used to be my situation until (say) two/three months ago. Now I no longer have this kind of problem. I do not use SSL/TLS and my server is on the same LAN.
I got the index-related problem I reported this morning, but nothig that hangs ThunderBird.

There are a couple of weird bugs that some people are seeing that I'd like to fix first. I've been a bit busy lately, and I still am for a few more days (have to finish some school and work (Dovecot related) stuff), but maybe after then I'll get around to debugging them.
v1.0 comes when I don't have any pending weird bugreports in my TODO :)
I don't think anyone expects or trusts a 1.0 release to be perfect. Usually it take 1.02 to inspire confidence. :)

No one expects any release to be perfect. There are always unknown bugs and problems, and beta/rc testers are usually too few in number to catch them all.
But many folks do expect the 1.0 release to be free of _known_ bugs, or if not, than with documented bugs which only affect a small number of installs and can either be avoided or worked around by most people.
Now, of course, Timo can release 1.0 whenever he wants, but I fully support his waiting until all his known issues, or at least known issues which effect a large number of installs, are fixed.
