What is $HOME in your LDAP-records?

No, Looks like there are broken informations in your home-attribute in LDAP.
Have a look at dovecot.conf.ext and/or in your LDAP settings.
Activate mail_debug=yes in your config and have a look in your logfile.
What does "doveadm user avadmin@av.loc" looks like?

O.K. I have solved this issue with a definition in the default namespace.
I have now changed back to a username in the form user@domain.
Now it works.
With a username in a different form I did not get it working. I had about 1000 tests.
Thanks for help.
