[Dovecot] need help with shared mailboxes
I have some problems with setting shared mailboxes . I use dovecot 1.2.11 with following namespaces :
mail_location: maildir:~
namespace: type: private separator: . inbox: yes list: yes subscriptions: yes namespace: type: private separator: . prefix: INBOX. hidden: yes list: no subscriptions: yes namespace: type: shared separator: . prefix: shared.%%n. location: maildir:/home/sites/%d/mail/%%n/Maildir/ list: children
plugin: acl: vfile acl_shared_dict: proxy::acl
dict: acl: mysql:/usr/local/etc/dovecot-share-sql.conf
In the private namespace I use to have only INBOX. space because I have migrate from courier and I ahave problemes with duplicate folders.
The disk structure looks like : /home/sites/domain.tld/mail/user(withoutdomain)/Maildir
What I'am trying to do is to give access to a user (user2@domain.tld) some other user mailbox (user1@domain.tld).
in the /home/sites/domain.tld/mail/user1/Maildir I have created a file dovecot-acl with :
owner lrwstipekxa user=user2@domain.tld rl
- in the dovecot-share-sql.conf I have :
connect = host=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock dbname=xxxx user=xxx password=postfixpass map { pattern = shared/shared-boxes/user/$to/$from table = user_shares value_field = dummy
fields {
from_user = $from
to_user = $to
}
}
and in the user_share table :
+-------------------+------------------+-------+ | from_user | to_user | dummy | +-------------------+------------------+-------+ | user1@myhost.ro | user2@domain.tld | 1 | | user1 | user2 | 1 | +-------------------+------------------+-------+
(not sure what I need %n or %u)
Now , in TB under the user2 , if I check subscribe , under the shared, I have a INBOX folder that is always check but nothing else. From what I understand I suppose to see user1 folders and I think it is something wrong with my config (namespaces, paths).
If someone have succeeded to configure dovecot with shared mailboxes and namespaces that use . as separator please help me.
Alex.

okay.
location: maildir:/home/sites/%d/mail/%%n/Maildir/
For consistency this would also be clearer if it was:
location = maildir:%%h
Although, do you really have the Maildir/ path included in users' home dirs? That's not right. http://wiki.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home
in the /home/sites/domain.tld/mail/user1/Maildir I have created a file dovecot-acl with :
You should use IMAP's SETACL commands to change the ACLs. I can't remember the details of how it works either.

You shared only user1's INBOX to user2. User2 can't see anything else without user1 sharing them. There's currently no way to set "share all of user1's mailboxes to user2".

I forgot to mention that I previously migrate from courier. I intend to solve this problem too. Any way from your posts I understand that the use of namespaces with separator like . is not a very good choice. I use to have prefix INBOX. and . separator for my private namespace.
I manage to change the config and maintain the compatibility , so now my namespaces looks like this:
namespace: type: private separator: / inbox: yes list: yes subscriptions: yes namespace: type: private separator: . prefix: INBOX. hidden: yes list: no subscriptions: yes namespace: type: shared separator: / prefix: shared/%%n/ location: maildir:/home/sites/%d/mail/%%n/Maildir:INDEX=~/shared/%%n list: children

I understand the part with sharing every folder from the mailbox user1 so that user2 to see everything from user1 mailbox. Now seems to work with previously mention modifications but it is not perfect so I suppose that is still something wrong.
Now user2 can see the inbox of user1, can read his emails...but:
in user2 inbox I have (in sq, but also in tb) :
- shared
- INBOX (don't now what represents, on click : ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "shared//INBOX" Reason Given: Mailbox doesn't exist: INBOX)
- INBOX (user1 inbox - OK)
- shared
on the first login of user2 , in /home/sites/domain.tld/mail/ , is creating a orphan folder Maildir , and on select of a first "INBOX" shared folder , in /home/sites/domain.tld/mail/ is creating a orphan folder shared.

I don't understand. Your use of "folder" here seems to mean sometimes filesystem directories and sometimes not. Show full paths for where the mails are supposed to be, and what is created that isn't supposed to be created.

Hi Timo
Thank you for answer me.
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.I have add rawlog settings to my config and test again.
This is how filesystem directory looks:
#ls -l /home/sites/domain.tld/mail/ drwx------ 2 vmail vmail 4096 Sep 14 12:21 Maildir drwxr-xr-x 3 vmail vmail 4096 Dec 18 2007 admin drwxr-xr-x 3 vmail vmail 4096 Sep 7 11:03 user1 drwxr-xr-x 3 vmail vmail 4096 Aug 4 2008 user2 drwx------ 3 vmail vmail 4096 Sep 14 12:21 shared -rw------- 1 vmail vmail 555 Sep 14 10:01 shared-mailboxes.db
Folders "Maildir" and "shared" are not suppose to be here.
For the "/home/sites/domain.tld/mail/shared" and "/home/sites/domain.tld/mail/Maildir" filesystem folders , the one way I reproduce their creation : I have delete "/home/sites/domain.tld/mail/shared" and "/home/sites/domain.tld/mail/Maildir", open TB, select user2 account and open the "Subscribe..." option. The result : both folders appear under the /home/sites/domain.tld.

Can you try v2.0? I think there's a good chance this is already fixed and it might be too much trouble to fix it for v1.2..

I will. All this test have been made on a test server but I also have production servers and all I want was to see how it works before move it live. In all this time I was thinking that is something wrong with my configs (namespaces/migrations from courier etc). I will try to find sometime to test v2.0 and I come back to you.
Thank you for your patience Alex
