There is experimental support in main branch for SMTPUTF8. You need to compile it yourself though, but can be enabled with --enable-experimental-mail-utf8.

Nice! I will try it out. Is there a runtime config option planned? It will probably take a while till it gets into distribution packages.

Long-term plan is to have it available by default.
