Getting these errors using Win32 version from Thunderbird 0.8 using imaps
" The current command did not succed. The mail server responded: Error in IMAP command UID: Invalid BODY[..] parameter: Missing '>'.

Sep 21 10:00:34 mikayla dovecot: imap-login: Login: steve [192.168.x.x] Sep 21 10:00:38 mikayla dovecot: IMAP(fred): Trying to allocate 0 bytes Sep 21 10:00:38 mikayla dovecot: child 12256 (imap) killed with signal 6

I can't get thunderbird to request partial messages. Could you send the full command that thunderbird is trying to send? With ethereal, rawlog, or something (http://dovecot.org/bugreport.html)
