[Dovecot] Migrating from CommunigatePro to Dovecot - anyone done this?
Apologies if this is in the archive - did look but couldn't find it.
Does anyone have any experience of migrating from CommunigatePro to Dovecot?
We currently run CGP 5.3.4, supporting a small system (20 or so users, one domain). We've been using it for years, and have a mixed bag of MailDir and mbox folders accessed via IMAP clients. Some users have large mail accounts (15GB total). We're looking to move as CGP is evolving into a complex "Messaging Centre" application (PBX, SIP, Mail, Groupware, Portals etc.) which we don't need / use.
I had a look on the Dovecot Wiki and under migration are discussions about various other mail systems, but I don't know enough about these to tell if they would also apply to CGP.
Any thoughts / suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks
Gavin.

I used imapsync to for migrating from courier to dovecot. It basically logs in to old and new account as a client, then copies messages and flags.
Here is a guide;

I don't know what CGP's mboxes and maildirs look like. If you don't care that your users redownload mails (worse for POP3), the migration should be easy (e.g. imapsync as mentioned). If you do care, there are two possibilities two preserve UIDs:
a) Write some script to migrate CGP mboxes and maildirs to a format that Dovecot understands. You could keep using both mboxes and maildirs, but a single user can't have both.
b) Write IMAP backend to dsync (http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/dsync) or possibly to Dovecot's lib-storage. Then use dsync to migrate users.
Probably it'll be easier to do a), but b) would be a really nice new feature, also for others for migrating from other servers. :)

Really helpful suggestions. Thanks!
imapsync looks like it will do the job - I think I can get the two servers to co-exist on the same server, so bandwidth issue will be minimised. Presumably also it will negate the need to convert each user to having just MailDir directories before the move
I will have a think about the script / dsync solution - if it turns out to be useful over imapsync and I create anything useful I will of course share it back via list etc.

Migrated 300+ mailboxes a few days ago (pop->imap and imap->imap) using imap tools from http://www.athensfbc.com/imap_tools/. Use v1.74 tar file. The author fixed a date issue. For some reason Dovecot expects that time format to be 2 characters, so for example 2:10:41 will fail but 02:10:41 will pass. After the script was changed all went very smooth. You can use the mass migration tools (migrateimap.pl and pop2imap.pl)
I did not have much luck with imapsync.
