How can i find out why this works but using shard-libs doesn't?

Probably specific to the mips/linaro/something tools that you're using. Have you tried that v2.1 still compiles? The best way to figure out why it works and v2.2 doesn't would be to find the specific commit from v2.2 that broke it. http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/BisectExtension could make finding that easier.
