Until 1.0 is released, I don't think you can truely call any of them
"production releases".  That doesn't mean they are bad (I run clamav
in production, and it has never had a 1.0 release either).

Sometimes, the management just has to trust your opinion and technical
knowledge, and have faith in you.  In such cases, you better have your
own faith in the product though, or you might get burned...
