IMAP, INBOX is in mbox format.
I've had no reports or evidence of this happening anywhere other than
INBOX.
The messages headers are being retrieved more than once, and the client is
showing them as new mail. I don't know where all the new/read/deleted
flags are kept. I suspect some of them are in IMAP, and some in the
clients.
I was sufficiently surprised by this to mail the list, as dovecot has been
very stable for us. I downgraded this server to 1.0rc17, and I have not
seen the problem recur.
