It wasn't ext3's fault actually after all what I noticed. In your  
other test the problems could be explained by  
maildir_copy_preserve_filenames=yes but I'm not actually sure about  
this. Can you still reproduce the errors with rc28?

xfs is a lot slower than ext3 with maildir at least in my tests.
