[Dovecot] Can't connect to auth server at /var/run/dovecot/auth-master: No such file or directory

I have

srw-rw---- 1 dovecot mail      0 15 jun 19.06 auth-master

(Exim runs as group mail, i.e. exim_group = mail. Adapt accordingly.)
