It failed to compile with `IBM(R) XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX(R)' on `AIX machine 3 5'. My configuration was `./configure CC=xlc LDFLAGS="-bexpall -brtl"'.

Did you compile with a simple configuration like `./configure' or `./configure CC=xlc'?
Or, did you compile with a wrapper script like dovecot-cc, as explained in http://wiki.dovecot.org/AixPluginsSupport?
Were all plugins built to .so files correctly?
