LIST is now working correctly in my setup, but SUBSCRIBE ist not.
With subscriptions=no, as written (but same behaviour with subscriptions=yes),
SUBSCRIBE INBOX.gmail.INBOX (or others) yields
0 NO [SERVERBUG] Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. [2011-09-09 16:39:40]
logging (with mail_debug=yes) only
Sep  9 16:39:40 host dovecot: imap(1143, user): Error: stat((null)) failed: Bad address
