[Dovecot] [Dovecot-news] v2.2.9 released

Maybe you didn't load the fts plugin?

http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/FTS/Solr

Basically, plugins are loaded in the mail_plugins option, so you should 
have a line like: mail_plugins = fts fts_solr .. <other plugins you need>
