Considering the link http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/DebianStable I'd say 
he's not trying to install Dovecot from Debian repository. (Which works 
correctly btw.)

The wiki page directs you to use some repostitory www.backports.org, 
maybe it would be worth mentioning wheezy-backports too.
