Question on setting up dovecot

Is the mail_location setting correct? I'm not sure about the mbox format 
an notation.
So check the dovecot wiki for further infos.

Check both directories "/u/sherril/lib/Mail", "/var/mail/sherril" for 
correct ownership and permissions.

Are there any mails in that directory?
Check if it is possible to walk thought the directory tree. If the user 
doesn't have the right to read /var , he will never reach 
/var/mail/sherril.
