In the past I have had problems supporting Outlook on a Dovecot server.
The problems were never Dovecot related. They were mostly Outlook not
dealing properly with IMAP connections, and refusing to refresh the
folder/conents lists. Be aware that simply closing Outlook may not be
enough, you may have to open the task manager and kill some background
stuff it leaves running.

I have migrated most of my clients using Outlook over to "eM Client",
it has superior handling for IMAP and integrates with caldav/cardav
servers perfectly. In the end it was a better solution than Outlook,
for the small handful of Windows users I have to support (most of whom
use Thunderbird anyway).
