It crashes at startup? That backtrace is completely corrupted. Are you
sure the core file is the right one, and that you're gdbing it against
the same dovecot-auth that produced it?

If you can't get a usable backtrace, could you show me dovecot -n output
so I can try to reproduce the crash.
