[Dovecot] problem with ~/mail/ namespace

We just changed from UW imap last night and one of our bigger problems
right now is that the ~/mail/ compatibility namespace doesn't seem to
work. dovecot 2.0.8

What's funny is that it appears to work with a preauthenticated session
or by using openssl to connect to port 993.
