If you don't want to actually define it in the database, then why not just
use a query like like:

user_query = SELECT 'mbox:/var/spool/mail/%d/imap/%n/' as mail, home, uid,
gid FROM users WHERE username = '%n' AND domainname = '%d'

And let mySQL do the substitution bit?
