[Dovecot] vpopmail oddities

vpopmail + qmail + dovecot + thunderbird = huge headache ;-)

alright, when attempting to connect via imaps to my .maildir based
vpopmail install, $user@$domain is having some problems.
/var/vpopmail/domains/$domain/$user is the location of the user
folders with vpopmail and yet dovecot isn't exactly passing on the
domain :-\ i'm not sure if this is a pebkac issue or if it's the root
of something far more evil, but this is really bothering me after
about 4 days.

i've got dovecot set to auth against vpopmail and i'm running a
dovecot authd. i know that i've given very little information, is
there any way that someone can ping me back requesting the particular
information they need to properly diagnose this?
