It's not that I don't want to implement it, but it's just not its time
yet. :) Dovecot's core functionality needs to be fully working first.
After v1.0 I'll probably do a larger redesign for how mailbox lists are
handled. That should result in support for:
- Mixed mbox/maildir/etc. directories with autodetection when opening.
Also the mbox code will be made more generic and then we can easily
support MMDF and other mbox-like flat file mailbox formats.
- Mailbox list indexes, allowing superfast LIST and STATUS replies
- Arbitrary per-mailbox metadata, allowing ANNOTATEMORE, ACLs,
CONDSTORE and whatever else requires storing per-mailbox metadata
