I can't help you with that, sorry, but it might be worth pointing out
that pop-before-smtp is generally a rather ugly kludge.
Before I got comfortable with SMTP AUTH I had set up a dynamic DNS
service which also updated /etc/hosts for clients who needed to relay.
The hosts entry overrode the rDNS in my MTA, and so I could allow relay
based on the hostname *.mydomain.
That's an uglier kludge in some ways ... such as that it doesn't take
place seamlessly in the MUA. But I'd suggest that you look at setting up
SMTP AUTH, which is well supported in most MUA's.
