Maybe this is related to same problem as tb-negative-fetch used to be
workaround for?

The latest 1.0-stable now contains code (backported from 1.0-tests by
Chris Wakelin) which removes the need for tb-negative-fetch workaround,
and maybe even fixes your problem?

Yes, although it prints some errors to log files.
