Bob,

 I've recently been trying to get the 1.0b7 and LDA installed and
working with sendmail on a test machine.  As far as I can tell,
permission problems will cause deliver to return an EX_TEMPFAIL.

in all of my testing with sendmail, this just causes the mail to get
dropped back into the queue for retrying later.

you should check your mailq to see if they're lingering.  Otherwise, for
more serious errors, deliver should return a 5.x.x permanent failure and
bounce the mail back to the sending host (likely with an "unknown error:
89")

Unfortunately, that's about as detailed a response I can give.
