Dovecot fails to start - Unknown setting: socket

I’m receiving the following error(s) messages when trying reloading dovecot
(Debian wheezy).

doveconf: Fatal: Error in configuration file /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf line
73: Unknown setting: socket
