Dovecot Logging and Shell Script Hang

You might want to enable mail_log plugin for imap/pop3 protocols only.

protocol imap {
   mail_plugins = $mail_plugins mail_log
}

protocol pop3 {
   mail_plugins = $mail_plugins mail_log
}
