Hello. I wrote the hook function for deliver. I want to add support of editheaders in the plug-in for dovecot. For this purpose I wrote the function rarules_get_stream. Remover of headrs works properly, but adding does not work. I took Timo Sirainen's advice from http://markmail.org/message/skb6arnll5gaopdr . Do I use a correct way of creation of a message? [Dovecot] is it possible to recover files from a dovecot.inboxe.cache file?

I found this file in the mail boz and noticed it had 20 emails in it (though you can only read really the header the body is cryptic cause it is a bin file?) Just not sure if I can and how to use this to restore the lost emails in that inbox. Thanks

[Dovecot] Segfault in Sieve 1.2

Hello, two days ago I've upgraded to 1.2rc2 and the new sieve implementation (version 0.1.4). Today I got the first mail that got stuck in the postfix queue because deliver was dying with a segfault. Hi all, $ sudo dovecot --version 1.2.beta3 I just started using Dovecot a few weeks ago, and my client is also using the X-REFERENCES2 thread algorithm. The client is misbehaving when trying to list messages in my INBOX, but only when a threaded message exists. I have tracked it down to the thread index that Dovecot is returning, but the problem is only extant when using the X-REFERENCES2 thread algorithm. Here is a snippet of transcript from imap client that comes with Dovecot: $ export MAIL=maildir:~/Maildir:INBOX=~/Maildir/INBOX $ /usr/lib/dovecot/imap <snip> 1 SELECT "INBOX" <snip> 2 THREAD X-REFERENCES2 UTF-8 ALL * THREAD (0)(2)(1 3)(4) 2 OK Thread completed. There are, in fact, only 4 messages in my INBOX, and the reference to (0) seems spurious. When I do the same test, but passing REFERENCES instead of X-REFERENCES2 Dovecot returns an index which I believe to be correct: <snip> 2 THREAD REFERENCES UTF-8 ALL * THREAD (1 3)(2)(4) 2 OK Thread completed. <snip> Is this the normal and expected behavior of X-REFERENCES2 that the client just needs to take into account, or is the reference to thread index (0) an error? Hi By playing around with imap acl I managed to get another crash. Setup is the same as in my last crash report ("1.2 beta4, crash with ACL"), except updated from beta4 to rc2 and added the slash to the prefix, as suggested by Timo: prefix: shared/%%d/%%n/ What I did: logged in as sales 2 setacl INBOX oli@<domain>.ch -lrs Connection closed by foreign host. Changes since beta4: * Renamed THREAD X-REFERENCES2 to THREAD REFS (from INTHREAD draft) + When a process is killed, show the signal code and the sending process's pid and uid. + quota-fs: Added support for NFS group quota. - Several fixes to shared mailboxes and ACLs - Removed umask setting. We're nowadays creating practically all files with proper umasks. - acl: Dropped default ACL cache timeout from 5 minutes to 30 seconds. - fts-solr fixes - virtual mailbox fixes - Write to main index file less often.

Hi, I'm having a problem with a webmail client trying to open multiple IMAP connections with dovecot, and hitting a cap. I see from the error logs from this program that it's hitting the mail_max_userip_connections cap, but I'm not seeing this value as defined in the dovecot.conf file. Would this automatically get set to a certain value by default if it's not present? If Maildir storage is used, the mtime of a given Maildir file is set to the message's INTERNALDATE. Now, when a client APPENDs a message to an IMAP mailbox, the client may optionally specify the INTERNALDATE: | If a date-time is specified, the internal date SHOULD be set in the | resulting message; otherwise, the internal date of the resulting | message is set to the current date and time by default. APPEND Command) ] However, if the client does so, Dovecot will set the mtime of the Maildir file in question to the date specified by the client even if it's in the future. Since files with an mtime in the future can cause all sorts of trouble (e.g., they might get backed up repeatedly by incremental backups), it would be nice if Dovecot would (optionally?) use the current time if the client specifies a time in the future. Reading the TimeMovedBackwards article on the Dovecot wiki, and the kernel mailing list thread referred to on it, it would seem quite apparent that this is caused by a failure of the gettimeofday() function to reliably return the correct value. If anyone has any advice as to how I could proceed to fix this (I currently have a watch on the Dovecot service which restarts it after any failures) or how I should best phrase this to get it resolved 'upstream' by the VPS provider, I would be very grateful. Even after 100k messages the peak saved msgs/sec is the same as the initial saved msgs/sec, even if the average slows down somewhat. I tested this by first deleting mailbox, then running "imaptest" for a second to get saving to start writing several fields to dovecot.index.cache file. Then ran imaptest for 60 seconds that did nothing but save messages using IMAP APPEND commands. The summary is that multi-dbox is almost 10x as fast as maildir when fsync is disabled and 2,5 faster with fsyncing: fsync_disable=yes: multi-dbox : ~1700 -> ~1500 msgs/sec, 90842 msgs/60 sec single-dbox: ~1700 -> ~1400 msgs/sec, 86149 msgs/60 sec maildir : ~330 -> ~110 msgs/sec, 9789 msgs/60 sec fsync_disable=no: multi-dbox : ~220 -> ~170 msgs/sec, 10113 msgs/60 sec maildir : ~100 -> ~70 msgs/sec, 4123 msgs/60 sec Also I just noticed that saving messages with two clients gets a peak of 2200 msgs/sec, most likely because two CPU cores can be used then. Hmm. I guess if there were no locking it should have reached 3400 msgs/sec, but it's better than no performance increase. Running Dovecot 1.1.8 using Virtual users, multiple domains. My file structure is /var/spool/mail/<domain>/<user>/Maildir/ (cur, new,tmp,.Spam) What I'd like to do is add an ACL such that all users can read/delete/move mail that's in the spam folder, but not delete it. Am I going to have to create an entry for every single user, or is there a way to do it once, for all .Spam folders? Hello, I'am following the beginning tutorial on the Wiki, but actually, I can't even start the server correctly so far. The imap-login child dies immediately. What I can guess from the log is that it tries some unpermietted operations on some files but I can't find out which files are concerned. Google is not my friend at all either on this matter. How can I know which files are concerned ? [Dovecot] Squat memory usage

I've been reading about using Squat with Dovecot on large mailboxes. I was wondering if some of the memory usage during searching and indexing could be reduced by using a berkeley db? I've used this in the past for something similar and in BTREE mode it was very fast for millions of keys. I havent had time to look at how squat is implemented, but I thought I'd throw it out there... -Ryan

Hello I am using Dovecot 1.1.1 together with Postfix (and for some users Procmail for Spam Filtering). Until now I didn't have to use shared mailboxes. Now I want to use simple simlinking to grant other users of the same group access to my mails. The problem is that new incoming mails have always file permissions set to 0600. I have also a file called dovecot-shared (0660) in the Maildir folder. No success. Why doesn't this work? I also tried to use UMASK in the procmailrc. No success. Any help is appreciated! Whenever dovecot is stopped while a dict process is running I see Fatal: io_loop_handle_add: epoll_ctl(1, 11): Bad file descriptor in the error log. The following patch fixes this for me. Hello people, Since the invention of this storage called dbox, I have never quite gotten round to understanding it, nor getting to use it. It seems so strange to me and I must ask a few stupid questions about it. I use the MTA to deliver mail to Maildir, either in ~/Maildir or /some/path/%d/%n/Maildir. It has always beat me how dbox comes into play under such circumstances. From the wiki, I see the following: "dbox supports a quick migration from Maildir format" - now this leaves me hanging. How? Suppose I migrate from Maildir to dbox, what changes do I make to the MTA to understand that I use dbox? Ok, I use Exim as my MTA. I hope someone can explain to me what I need to do to Exim and what to do th Dovecot so that I can test this dbox thing. And suppose I want to transfer userA's mail to UserB, what do I do? With Maildir, I can simply do something like mv ~A/Maildir ~B/Maildir chown -R B ~b/Maildir Suppose I am using dbox, howdy? Thank you in advance. Hello, I was asking what was the motivation for not having the envelope From in the Maildir format, as defined in the qmail spec : "The message is delivered without an extra UUCP- style From_ line, without any >From quoting, and without an extra blank line at the end." which may sound silly since we lose an important piece of information. Same question about the motivation in Courrier (Maildir++) for emulating a hierarchy for subfolders (like in .folder.subfolder.subsubfolder) instead of (note : I know about layout=FS, I'm not talking about that) implementing a real filesystem hierarchy. I understand dovecot kept those for compatibility reasons but I'd like to know what was the authors of thoses specs thinking when deciding this. Hi, I’m currently try to use the dovecot quota plugin. I use the maildir plugin ,and use mysql as to get the quota rule. Question is: Sometimes dovecot only count in the size of INBOX ,without other (I use imap to create some mailbox),while,sometimes it count in all. I don’t know if there’s anything wrong with my configure. Here is the configure of my dovecot. [Dovecot] ampersand in local-part

I have a new email server (postfix/dovecot/mysql) with accounts migrated from another server (different platform) and email addresses with ampersands like "r&d(a)domain.com" that worked on my old email server are not working now. I'd like some help tracking this issue down. Can anyone tell me if this looks like a postfix, dovecot or mysql issue? Some log info follows. [Dovecot] dbox with non-dovecot LDA

Aside from the code is there any documentation on using dbox with a non-Dovecot LDA? We have our own MTA and currently use Dovecot with Maildir only for message retrieval and just have our MTA write the message files to our own directory structure (Dovecot per user mailbox locations stored in mysql) but I am interested in looking at moving to dbox if it is better for performance and other things like static filenames. One thing we'd like to do is not use the Dovecot LDA so as to control the entire inbound email delivery process all the way to verifying the actual message is 100% written to disk. Certainly we can use the Dovecot LDA if it came to it but we'd like to retain control over this entire process if possible.

I followed the information from the wiki here is my dovecot.conf file and yet I can't get pop3 working. I need this to listen on pop3 for an internal process but get email from smtp sources. So I would like to have sendmail receive email from the world to a specific email address then check the mailbox via a POP3 internal process. Any help would be great. [Dovecot] Virtual user folder configuration

Since I'm going to make a change to my folder structure, what would be recommended so I can avoid the need in the future? All my mail users are virtual - they have no existence in /etc/passwd, nor do they have folders under /home. At this time, all mail is being delivered to maildir:/var/mail/%d/%n - and the home is the same (which is becoming more of a problem). As I see it, I have the choices of: 1. Place mail underneath home, as in /var/mail/%d/%n/mailbox Probably the simplest, but adds a level to the folder hierarchy. Does that matter in any way? 2. Place home underneath mail, as in /var/mail/%d/%n/home (unless THAT poses a problem as well, with a non-mail folder visible to the mail system) Leaves mail alone - but means the home folder is visible from within the mail system. 3. Relocate home totally outside mail, as in /var/mail/home/%d/%n Would provide isolation - but more difficulty in administration, particularly adding/deleting users. Any suggestions? -- Daniel

[Dovecot] CMUSieve with virtual users

Hi, I'm using dovecot 1.1.7 on Gentoo with Postfix and PostfixAdmin to manage my virtual users. I'm trying to use sieve (which has been compiled with Dovecot) but it doesn't work. I added cmusieve in the lda protocol : mail_plugins = cmusieve mail_plugin_dir = /usr/lib/dovecot/lda My maildir scheme is : /home/vmail/%d/%n/.maildir The sieve file is in /home/vmail/%d/%n/.dovecot.sieve (i'm using the sieve variable in the plugin section). I also tried in /home/vmail/%d/%n/.maildir/.dovecot.sieve. Then I tried in /var/sieve-scripts/%u.sieve. None of these solutions worked :x I enabled all the debug options in dovecot, and i can't see anything about sieve in my logs. I'm using the same configuration without virtual users on another server and it's working fine. I'm out of ideas. Could someone has managed to use sieve scripts with virtual users ? First one is for our CRM system (new user=mail from him/her) , second is for other (cannot user CRM DB :( ) Postfix have no problem to deliver mails to both DBs but I've some problems with reciveing mails from second (not CRM) DB. Hello! Is it possible with sieve to do the following: When a new message is added to a folder (e.g. dovecot folder and not INBOX) then an action like forwarding it per E-Mail should be triggered.
