[Dovecot] After upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1.1 my "hidden" private namespaces suddenly aren't hidden anymore...

Just upgraded my home mail server from version 1.0 to 1.1.1 and now I noticed that Thunderbird has started showing the 'hidden' namespaces (albeit "greyed") for that server (see the attached JPG image)... What can I change to really make them hidden again? The only thing I changed in my dovecot.conf file from 1.0 to 1.1.1 was to add the following two lines: mail_nfs_storage = yes mail_nfs_index = yes - Peter

Hello! I have port-built dovecot-1.1.1 on freebsd 6.3 i386 box. There is signal 11 on imap child occurs every time when i'm trying to send email. In fact, email is sending to MTA correctly, but when message moving to Sent folder segmentation error appears. Hi, I am using dovcot on a Fritz!Box (Linux fritz 2.6.19.2 #1 Fri Apr 18 16:00:34 CEST 2008 mips unknown) And after upgrading from 1.0.9 to 1.0.15 I am getting above assertion, when I do some action like moving or deleting on the IMAP mail box using MailDir on ext2 fs. I use --with-ioloop=poll as build configuration. I am getting a different assert, when I compile dovecot with --with-ioloop=epoll and --with-mem-align=4 For dovecof configuration see below details. [Dovecot] fs quota check with server does not support rquotad

Hi, Last time, I have got no reply, hope this time is better. OS: Solaris 10 Dovecot version : 1.1.1 file system of /var/mail : NFS from Solaris file system of /home : other NFS server that not support rquotad. Here is my setting that works: ---------------------------- plugin { quota = fs:INBOX:mount=/var/mail quota2 = fs:home:noenforcing:mount=/home/h1 } The above settings works. Dovecot able to report the quota information on /var/mail. However, when I try to append some mail to mail folders on my home drive, dovecot will produce following errors. Hi Friends, I'm running postfix 2.2.10, dovecot-0.99.11 and openldap -2.2.13 in my organization. Here, all my postfix, dovecot, saslauthd, depends on ldap only. Means ldap is acting as a centralized database for user information. In this picture everything is working fine except user login to dovecot for downloading their mails. Actually they can't able to login to the server from client like outlook express. Instead thay are geting error like "server closed the connection...". Hi all, With some help of this list, I've managed to set up some mailboxes keeping \Seen flags as private. Thanks Timo for updating the documentation about that. But now, I've got another question: is it possible to keep those flags as private and have shared keywords ("Junk", "NotJunk", etc.)? Dovecot (v1.1.rc8) died tonight, with an error about time moving backwards by 4398 seconds. I can see from logs that this has happend a few times before with the imap processes, without me noticing. I sure noticed the master process missing, though :-). I was puzzled that it was always 4398 seconds, in particular because this server runs an NTP daemon. A little searching for this problem shows that it is an issue with the Linux kernel gettimeofday(), see e.g. http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/23/96 Below is a patch (untested) to work around this issue. Do you see something wrong with this approach, apart from the uglyness? I just picked the 4395-4400 values by chance. Can you figure out how big the window should be? Hi, I'm using dovecot v1.0.rc15 (from debian etch) and I have some performance problems. [Dovecot] FETCH for mailbox got too little data

Using 1.1.1. Got this error message in a tight loop, using both Tbird and Mulberry 3 as client: FETCH for mailbox INBOX UID 32994 got too little data: 1616 vs 1649 I get this repeatedly alternating with a login line. What does this mean? I stopped the server, zipped ~/mail/.imap/INBOX to hide it and let dovecot recreate it, and things seem to be working again. Is there a less destructive way to fix this in the future? Delivery is by procmail.

[Dovecot] imap and vpopmail: per-domain auth

Hi, i have qmail + vpopmail + dovecot + squirrelmail 0.99.14 on Fedora Core 4. Qmail includes its own pop3 server, and everybody is able to access it from outside. Dovecot is used only locally by SquirrelMail - so everybody can access via webmail. I'd like to make imap directly available from outside, but only for a few selected domains (NOT ip addresses!), while leaving everyone able to access with pop3 and/or via webmail. I don't know if this is possible, and if it is, i don't even know where to start. Is it a vpopmail or dovecot setting? Thank you for any suggestion and/or pointer to the right documentation. -- Francesco

We have been using dovecot v1:1.0.15-1_72 and dovecot-sieve v1.0.3-7 very successfully for many months but I've been unable to get dovecot-sieve to work with the latest 1.1 release. The new release seems to completely ignore our global sieve script no matter what we do. Is anyone else using the atrpms-stable rpms packages and able to get dovecot-sieve to work correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gavin

I was wondering if Dovecot has the ability to sort email scored by Spamassassin? I know many people use Procmail for sorting but I was wondering if Dovecot can do the job or should I just use Procmail on my Linux (Postfix) server to sort email in specific folders? I have not yet installed Dovecot and or Procmail on the Postfix / Debian server. I would be installing the latest version avialable in apt-get = 1.0.13. Now when I try to retrieve mail from the server, I get the following message: Security Error: Domain name mismatch You have attempted to establish a connection to "mail.tib.com" However, the security certificate presented belongs to "imap.tib.com"..... Everything is working, with exeption of this filter: if header :comparator "i;ascii-casemap" :regex "X-Spam-Score" ".*\+\+\+\+" { fileinto "Spamq"; stop; } Which I think should match only messages with ++++ somewhere in their X-Spam-Score header - but matches everything (this is filter generated by ingo fom horde.org framework). Hi. At http://wiki.dovecot.org/ManageSieve#line-229 , I want to download the patch that's supposed to fix two problems in Avelsieve. Unfortunately, when I click on the link to the patch, I always get an error message: You are not allowed to do AttachFile on this page. Annoying. I am a newcomer to Dovecot so apologies if this is elementary. I want to set up dovecot to allow other computers on my home network to read emails on my desktop via IMAP. This computer is called arcadia. dovecot is running and I can access the mail on the same computer with mutt -f imap://ac@localhost. If I use the above line on a different computer in the network it says "authenticaing 'PLAIN'" and then "logging in ..", then "login failed" and cuts out. In /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf I have set disable_plaintext_auth = no I have no idea how to proceed further. Anthony Campell

Hi, I'm a Dovecot newbie and have some problems with the configuration/the resulting interoperability. My setup looks like this: I receive my mail using qmail-ldap and sort it with a number of means into ~/Mailbox/ (= INBOX) and ~/Mail/folder/ for various values of 'folder' (generally one folder per mailing list). The sorting is done via .qmail-* files, LDAP entries, and procmail (this is a "legacy" setup that I'd rather not change too much). I usually access my mail using 'mutt' on the local machine (Debian 4.0), and everything is fine. I'd like to be able to access the same email using Thunderbird over IMAPS as well, to gain foreign character support (ie, Chinese), while continuing to use mutt as my main MUA. There are, so far, two problems with this setup: 1. I can't find the folders in ~/Mail/. As an interim solution, I symlinked them from my ~/Mailbox/ dir, but this is _dead_ugly_. 2. (MUCH more serious) As soon as I access the email using Thunderbird, Dovecot moves all new mail from somefolder/new to somefolder/cur, thereby making mutt flag all my new mail as 'O' ("old") which was flagged 'N' ("new") before. If I remember which the new mails were, I can flag them as 'N' in mutt, and they get moved to .../new again, but this isn't usually the case because my mailboxen are often large (> 10.000 messages), and it's undone as soon as I access the mailbox with Thunderbird (over IMAPS). I also have a wish list. Both Mutt and Dovecot (can) make use of index files to speed mail access. It would be great if this could be unified so that both programs use the same index files (in a consistent manner, of course). Hi List, last time i did a lot of packaging and installing different versions of dovecot 1.0.x (rc not included ;) )and all was fine. Now a have a little problem. But it seems that it was not first pop-login after dovecot update. Update time was 14:57 Uhr. Pop-Login which "created" this mails was 3rd after update. It is not a big problem, seems to happens one only time but i want to know the backgrounds. Do you need further data? Hello I have a Dovecot IMAP account running. It's a shared account between a few people. I want to stop users being able to rename existing folders and to stop them creating new ones. I've searched for this, so I suspect the answer is no. Is it possible? [Dovecot] How to pull /var/mail mbox leftovers to Maildirs?

I just got my preferred postfix+dovecot(-1.1.1) configuration working on Ubuntu 8.04 server. Users and Maildirs migrated, etc. I wasn't seeing inbound mail (in the email client) until I set: sudo postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/' Which I hadn't needed in the previous server's main.cf I have a few hours worth of inbound mostly-spam in /var/mail/(username) during the time I was figuring this out. What command line tools could I use to pull those message from the mboxes to the Maildirs? Thanks.

[Dovecot] 1.1 namespaces and message corruption

Hello, I've been trying out the new dovecot's namespace support, and I'm having some issues moving messages between namespaces. Specifically, when I move some messages from a Maildir-based namespace to an mbox-based namespace, the message gets corrupted: its contents are removed, and an entirely empty message is added to the destination mailbox. This is 100% repeatable (some messages just *cannot* be copied intact). I have two namespaces, set up like so: namespace private { # Default separator = . hidden = no inbox = yes prefix = location = maildir:%h/Maildir } namespace private { separator = . hidden = no prefix = "INBOX.ArchiveTest." location = mbox:%h/Maildir/Archive } All I do is tell my client (mutt) to copy a message from a folder in the maildir namespace into a folder in the mbox namespace. Does anyone know what might be going wrong or how I can even debug this? No error messages of any kind are showing up in the dovecot log file, and the mail_debug setting doesn't seem to give me any useful information. Hi I am needing a bit more detail on IMAP protocol and setup possibilities (for an application in mind). I note that 'The Book of IMAP' has recently been published in English (May 08). It seems to be focused on Cyrus IMAP rather than Dovecot. Does anyone on the list have the book? Is the book's treatment of Cyrus IMAP much different from Dovecot? Thanks for any comments. Bob G

Hi, I've been trying some benchmarks to compare 1.0 vs 1.1 -this is the easiest way to explain the move to my boss-, so I've compiled dovecot 1.1 and imaptest-20080627 in my secondary machine running RHEL4, with homes in NFS, indeces in local files and control files also in NFS. Then I've created 100 new users imaptest001-imaptest100, and set the password paquitoelchocolatero to all of them. If users are checking their email using imap or pop, is there a way they can change their own passwords (so I can create a temporary one and let them change them to whatever they want) through, say, Thunderbird or whatever?

[Dovecot] Can't create subfolders when activating namespaces, e.g. private/public

Hi, i am using hardy dovecot, 1.0.10. If i enable namespaces (the private and a public one) i am unable to create new subfolders in my private namespace, only top level folders works. There is nothing in the log about that error even if i set mail_debug = yes. If i comment out everything (no namespaces at all, implicit private one), it works again. Any hints whats going wrong, why is my client getting the message about not being able to create this subfolder? kinds regards Torsten

Hi I have a mixed configuration for MAILDIR und MBOX accounts LDA is exim. For maildir exim writes a maildirsize file and I can see the IMAP contingent in my mailclient. But I can't find a solution for mbox. Hi, I use a non-root user to run auth program and get an error: auth-worker.18163) failed: Permission denied and cannot start dovecot. But with the same configration at another server, it works fine. If I use root, it works also. Any help? Hello Dovecot users, I have formulated a new release that addresses an important ManageSieve compilation issue that arises when compiling with GCC 4.3 (as used by the new Debian Lenny). Change Log v0.10.3 ------------------- * Removed erroneous inline declarations that caused compiler warnings. GCC 4.3 turns out to fail entirely as reported by Joel Johnson. * Fixed auto-detection of Sieve implementation during ./configure. It now produces a proper error when the directory is invalid. [Dovecot] "select NULL as password..." failing after upgrade to dovecot-1.1

Hi, I've upgraded mail server to dovecot-1.1, on solaris-10 with mysql user database. I used sql query "SELECT NULL as password, login as user, concat('/mail/var/dovecot/',login) AS userdb_home, 501 AS userdb_uid, 501 AS userdb_gid FROM users WHERE login='%n' AND password=old_password('%w')" with dovecot-1.0.15 and it worked perfectly. But since upgrade the server can not authenticate any users, complaining in info_log: "Empty password returned without no_password". How to set up such things in dovecot-1.1?
