Hi, I know I shouldn't ask stuff like this when using dovecot-0.99.11-4.EL4 (CentOS-4.4), but why I'm asking this is whether it's worth to switch from rpm based upstream dovecot to a self compiled one or not and thus I think you wouldn't kill me presenting you this question. o:-) I've got a problem with dovecot regarding a pop3 proxy issue. When I configure my dovecot server to do just plain pop3 I can telnet from a windows box without any flaw, but as soon as the client uses some pop3 proxy (for example outlook uses avira antivir Mail-AntiVirus Protection), queries to that server fail. A log line looks like this: pop3-login: Dec 05 22:53:24 Info: Disconnected [::ffff:84.165.54.42] Moreover with the proxy activated, a telnet to port 110 (pop3) is not working properly, the cursor stays right behind "+OK dovecot ready." and as soon as I enter a character, the server rejects this character as an unknown command (Without pressing ENTER). As soon as I turn off the Antivir-Proxy the telnet to port 110 runs flawlessly and I can login. So I'd like to know is there anything I can do with this version or is it worth trying the newest version? Is this a known issue? [Dovecot] Bug Report: ACL plugin searches wrong directory with shared folders

I've been attempting to get to get Shared Folders and ACL's to work under dovecot 1.0rc17. Unfortunately, I've run into some problems (many have already been mentioned on the list), specifically the problem where folder-specific ACL files are not found (and I will not use Global ACL's due to the 100% probability of cross-namespace mailbox name conflicts). My namespace is as follows: namespace private { separator = / prefix = location = maildir:%h/Maildir inbox = yes } namespace private { separator = / prefix = CIW Archived/ location = maildir:%h/Mailarchive } namespace public { separator = / prefix = CIW Groups/ location = maildir:/srv/export/groups:CONTROL=%h/Maildir/public- subscriptions:INDEX=%h/Maildir/public-index } I decided to run a quick strace on dovecot's imap daemon while I was getting a folder listing to see why dovecot was not finding the folder-specific ACLs. Below are what I feel are the two key instances in the trace: Example 1: searching for ACL on private folder open("/etc/dovecot-acls//.DEFAULT", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open("/home/ghuntress/Maildir/./dovecot-acl", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open("/etc/dovecot-acls/Work", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open("/home/ghuntress/Maildir/.Work/dovecot-acl", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) stat("/etc/dovecot-acls/", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 open("/etc/dovecot-acls/", O_RDONLY) = 7 That looks good. The ACL plugin looking for the global acls first in the correct location, then in the maildir itself for the folder- specific acl. Example 2: searching for ACL on shared folder open("/etc/dovecot-acls//.DEFAULT", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open("/home/ghuntress/Maildir/public-subscriptions/./dovecot-acl", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open("/etc/dovecot-acls/IS.Postmaster", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open("/home/ghuntress/Maildir/public-subscriptions/.IS.Postmaster/ dovecot-acl", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) stat("/etc/dovecot-acls/", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 open("/etc/dovecot-acls/", O_RDONLY) = 7 Not so good. The ACL plugin is looking under the "CONTROL=" setting from the namespace location configuration, and not under the maildir itself for the folder-specific acl. Since we have to set the separate CONTROL location because of subscription conflicts (http:// wiki.dovecot.org/SharedFolders) we either break subscriptions by removing the CONTROL setting, or break ACL's by adding it. I'm not terribly familiar with the inner workings of Dovecot, however I can envision two possible fixes: 1.) Always have the ACL plugin look under the maildir location (and not the CONTROL override) for folder-specific ACLs or 2.) Have dovecot always place subscriptions for shared folders in a user-specific directory regardless of the namespace location configuration (although, this would probably break a ton of production configurations). I don't know what either of the above options would break, but I hope it's gives some ideas on how to fix this long-standing bug. Please let me know if I can be of any more help. -Garret -- Garret W. [Dovecot] quota in mysql not being updated

I'm having trouble getting the quota plugin to work with deliver. The quota in the database is not getting set. I am using dovecot-1.0-rc15. This server is not yet in production. Some values below are because I'm trying to test with the simplest possible case, and some because it's reading from a different database. Also, I noticed that "dovecot -n" doesn't display any information for the lda, nor any plugin information. [Dovecot] Authorization client connect failing

Hello, and thank you in advance for your valuable time. I am running Dovecot v1.0.rc15 on an OpenBSD 3.9 i386 machine (no time to upgrade yet). I downloaded the source from the dovecot site, compiled and installed without any problem. The server starts up find and runs for a while. After a few hours to a few days, the server stops sending the CAPABILITY statement when a client tries to login. I found a few descriptions of this problem on the web, but no satisfactory resolution. I added some debugging code to the functions in auth-client.c and got the following traces. Included in this email are a successful login attempt, a failed attempt, and a startup trace. I am not a UNIX sockets guru and don't know the dovecot internals well enough to figure out what's wrong. I am happy to add/remove debugging code as requested to help track down the problem, although it may take a few days for the server to hang again. [Dovecot] Connection to server time out when deleting (moving to Trash)

Hi, Running: * Dovecot 1.0 rc15 * Debian Sarge Linux Using Maildir and IMAP over SSL. When trying to delete a lot of mail (> 5000-6000 messages) in some folder, using Mozilla Thunderbird (1.5.0.7) on Ubuntu, I often experience "Connection to server <hostname> timed out." Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? [Dovecot] Virtual Users and Local Users Authentication

I am using dovecot on a SLES 10 mail server using postfix as the MTA. The original setup used local users and a single domain. I have now configured postfix to send mail to a second virtual domain which is working fine. I am trying to get dovecot to pick up the mail and have been having authentication problems. My local users uses pam and /etc/passwd for login with SSL. I have created a passwd file for the virtual users and have set dovecot to look at the passwd-like file with the path specified. However dovecot complains about the file not being present, which it is and my local users can not login. Probably doing something simple incorrectly, but can not find what fron online searches. [Dovecot] Migrating from UW-IMAP

Greetings. I've got a poorly conceived and implemented system I'm trying to migrate off of. Right now we've got 20K accounts or so, in mbox form, under UW-IMAP. Eventually we're going to move to Maildir format, but the first step is to move to Dovecot on one of our imap servers as a proof of concept. In other words, all config changes have to take place on the dovecot side, until I get PHB approval to proceed further. Right now, the inboxes are the user's username, located in /var/mail (an NFS mounted volume). So my inbox would be at /var/mail/chandler. The sub-mailboxes are in the user home directories, just scattered around-- no /mail subdirectory or anything close. So there's a folder called ~chandler/INBOX.Sent, ~chandler/INBOX.Trash, and a ~chandler/Dovecot (for this list). The list of these files is kept in ~chandler/.mailboxlist. I attempted to follow the instructions at http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration about: You can either rename your .mailboxlist file to .subscriptions for all your users using uw2dovecot.sh <http://wiki.dovecot.org/uw2dovecot.sh>, or change the definition of SUBSCRIPTION_FILE_NAME in /src/lib-storage/subscription-file/subscription-file.c/. In 1.0-test, this value is defined in /src/lib-storage/subscription-fileindex/maildir/maildir-storage.h/ and /src/lib-storage/subscription-fileindex/mbox/maildir-storage.h/. .subscriptions is located inside of the mail directory, whereas it is possible .mailboxlist was outside of it (in user's home directory). [Dovecot] Bounce vs. Defer

Hello-- I've noticed that with when using deliver, if there is a misconfiguration in my dovecot configuration file, a permissions problem on the maildir, etc., deliver will bounce the message. I'm using Postfix, and at some point used Maildrop, and I know that maildrop (and I believe also Postfix's virtual transport) instead defer the message if there is some kind of fixable problem (like permissions). Then, when the problem is solved, you can flush the queue. Would it be possible to add a defer option to deliver? It makes it difficult to try out new options or different configurations because if you have fairly regular incoming mail, the last thing you want is a ten minute period where 20 messages get bounced... There is net lines in my auth section: passdb passwd-file { args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot/proxy.users } userdb static { args = uid=26 gid=6 } File proxy.users should contain a list of users. Now it looks like test:::::::proxy host=10.10.10.10 and everything is OK. My question is how to change passwd-file in order to match any username? Here's an update to my configuration. I'm able to use Cyrus SASL to enable SMTP AUTH in PostFix, validate user's mail addresses in Active Directory, and store mail in maildir on FreeBSD. I am currently able to authenticate AD users with Dovecot and LDAP, but I'm getting the following error in the log: Error: IMAP(user@domain): Ambiguous mail location setting, don't know what to do with it: user@domain (try prefixing it with mbox: or maildir:) Error: IMAP(user@doman): Failed to create storage data: user@domain. Error: child xxxxx (imap) returned error 89 I double-checked dovecot.conf, and the mail_location setting is "mail_location = maildir:/usr/data/vmail/%u". I'm not sure what could be happening, but I'm thinking this is the last thing I need to get my configuration to work. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Hi everybody, this is my first post to the list. I'm setting up a mail server with sendmail/LDAP/Dovecot (all latest version on FC6) I'm trying hard to get sendmail deliver through dovecot "deliver" I followed the instructions at the wiki: http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA but I can't get it working. i cannot find the problem where ? when I do this as mailer: some.domain.com dovecot:dovecot or this: some.domain.com dovecot.mail.host.net sendmail always reports (on the maillog) an unknown mailer error: ...... stat=unknown mailer error 80 path to deliver is checked and executable by everyone (/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver) can someone help please ? BTW : I manager to create a dovecot.m4, that way we can add "MAILER(dovecot)" to sendmail.mc if you are interested I will post it. Regards, Zydoon.

[Dovecot] Build problems with non-standard location of mysql libs

Overall the build process for dovecot is very clean. I did however run into a significant problem when it came to locating the mysql libraries, especially when building a 64 bit executable but similar problems occured building a 32 bit executable. I am describing the 64 bit build issues below since that is the worst case scenario. Fixing the 64 bit build will automatically fix the 32 bit build. In the Solaris world it is fairly common for software packages to be installed in the /opt tree rather than under /usr or /usr/local. In addition 64 bit libs are typically located under a path like /opt/lib/64 or /opt/lib/sparcv9 and of course mysql libs are under /opt/lib/mysql or /opt/lib/sparcv9 | 64/mysql. The configure script for dovecot tries only a lib64 or /usr/lib64 path I suggest that the conifgure script for dovecot offer a --with-mysql[=DIR] option so that it would be possible to provide the base location of the mysql installation as --with-mysql=/opt in the same manner that it is done for php. I patched the configure script to search the /opt tree for mysql but unfortunately a side effect occured during the build which was compiled as 64 bit with the necessary CFLAGS and LDFLAGS input to the configure script. Here is the configure. Note that the library search paths also include the Solaris specific sparcv9 paths so nothing special is required in the configure script to account for these platform specific paths. This is exactly the same method the we use to build php as a 64 bit app successfully. However, the configrue script needs to locate the /opt/include/mysql directory and also needs to find /opt/lib/mysql to at least trigger that it found the mysql installation. Even though /opt/lib/mysql is the path to the 32 bit library, the link tests will pass because the supplied LDFLAGS contain the path to the 64 bit library. No output written to dovecot-auth What is odd about the above is that the input to libtool is completely correct but the resulting gcc command converted -lmysqlclient to an absolute path of /opt/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so which is wrong for a 64 bit build - hence the link failure. Why this happened is a mystery to me? If it had been left alone as -lmysqlclient the link would have been successful because the correct 64 bit library would have been found automatically. To get around this problem I added -lmysqlclient to the LDFLAGS input to the configure script which works but isn't very conventional. It would be much cleaner if the --with-mysql had a [=DIR] option and the configure script used the same basic logic that is used in the php configure script for locating the mysql stuff. [Dovecot] Vpopmail auth with vchkpw

Hey Guys, I'm using vpopmail, and was told here that I need to use the vchkpw passwd module to authenticate AND get my lastauth data updated. It works like a charm, but I've come across another minor issue. vchkpw sets the 'connection-type' based on the variable TCPLOCALPORT If that's not set, it defaults to pop. What this does in my environment is cause someone who is denied POP access to also not be able to use IMAP (or webmail) because that variable is not set. Is it possible to have Dovecot set that variable, based on the port the user connected to, prior to calling vchkpw? Hi, first.. i'm new on this list :-) and use dovecot 1.01rc17 under fedora core 5. And i read the list of the last 4 moth and didn't found answers to my questions........ now i work with shared folders and got it running on the following configuration: namespace private { seperator = . prefix = location = maildir:/srv/imapd/user/%u/maildir inbox = yes } namespace public { seperator = . prefix = Public. location = maildir:/imapd/shared/public/maildir:CONTROL=/imapd/user/%u/shared-settings/public/control:INDEX=/imapd/user/%u/shared-settings/public/index hidden = no } location is one line :-) I have different questions to this configuration: if i use "hidden = no" at the private namespace, the complete namespace isn't viewable, if i use "hidden = yes" i see the prefix "private" at the foldernames in my emailclient. Shouldn't be a non existing hidden option the same like "hidden = no"? if use / as the seperator like dokumented at the wiki it doesn't work. with a dot like the seperator at the directories for the emailfolder it works. is there a way to implement ACL for virtuell user in this configuration? The namespace could be a very interesting idea to give other user access to the own mailbox (e.g. for holiday), but for this each user need it's own acl-file which he can change.... And the special folder like Inbox must be viewable from another user. The both last could be realized with an option like "ACL = /imapd/user/%u/rights" to include an file with acldefinition at the namespacedefiniton. Another way could be a option like "ACL_R = user, user, group, group" inside of the namespacedefinition with definition of user and group outside of the namespacedefintion. For me a LDAP request would the best way :-) i realize the complete emailconfiguration with ldap. Stefan

[Dovecot] How change the order POP checks mail.

Hello! I have a problem with the POP when I want to use mbox and Maildirs. The old users are now using uw-imap, but in the future should theres old e-mail be in mbox format and the new e-mails in maildirs. I'am using this code and its worked fine in Squirrelmail and IMAP. namespace private { separator = / inbox = yes hidden = no prefix = "mbox/" location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u } namespace private { separator = / prefix = location = maildir:~/Maildir } but not with POP, I can't find any mail. When I only searching for mbox mail, it worked great. I think thats the problem are the pop who first searching for Maildirs and then mailboxes. So how could I get the Dovecot POP server to first check the mailboxes and then the maildirs? Or how should I go around this problem? Thanks! Andreas Andersson

I can't seem to get a shared folder working properly. I am authenticating using pam, and the users have a shell account on the system. Problem is, the permissions on the messages moved into the folder don't maintain properly, and other users can't read the share. I'm using dovecot (rc17) in POP3/IMAP server _and_ proxy mode (pgsql backend). [Dovecot] RC15 problems with dovecot-shared and umask distilled

I recently posted about problems I've been having with dovecot-shared and umask in RC15 (using Solaris 9). I've now been able to distill what I'm experiencing into these two separate points: 1. dovecot-uidlist and message files never inherit the dovecot-shared group 2. With umask=0007 these files are created with mode 600 instead of 660: dovecot-uidlist, dovecot.index, dovecot.index.log, messages files (cur,tmp,new and the parent directory *are* created 770) (With regard to #1, I originally posted that individual message files were also not inheriting *permissions* from dovecot-shared, but that turned out to be a case of copying a message with maildir_copy_with_hardlinks = yes.) I can duplicate this consistently; can anyone else? Or has this been fixed in RC16/17? Thanks, Glenn

[Dovecot] dovecot imap logging capabilities

Hello, I have searched but have not found any information on logging imap actions. I want to log when someone uses imap to delete, move, copy, etc. This would greatly help me when someone deletes an email and asks where it went. I get this fairly often from a few users. [Dovecot] A few rc17 imap crashes

We upgraded from 1.0-beta7 to 1.0-rc17 on Tuesday evening and looking at today's logs, just four imap processes out of 90,000+ died. I managed to get core files (the server is running Solaris 8 on Sparc, and Dovecot was compiled with gcc 3.3.2). I hope they're useful! (I should also say that performance between the two versions is roughly similar according to Solaris' process accounting stats, looking at CPU usage and disk blocks accessed.) [Dovecot] default_mail_env/mail_location syntax changes

Sorry, I tried to find this info on the wiki and in the docs, but couldn't quite figure it out. Dovecot 1.0rc8 introduced this change: "mbox:/var/mail/%u" no longer works as the mail location. You'll have to specify the mail root explicitly, just like the examples always have: "mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u" If I need a custom INBOX location but the default behavior of using the first of [/ or ~/mail or ~/Mail] having a .imap subdirectory, how do I go about specifying that? That is, on my system, - inbox file: ~/Mailbox - mail storage dir: ~/mail OR ~/Mail (it varies by user) - all files are in mbox format Thanks, Mike

[Dovecot] some Maildir files not honoring dovecot-shared

I'm using RC15 on Solaris 9. The wiki indicates that when a dovecot-shared file exists, "Dovecot uses the same permissions and GID when it creates index files, dovecot-uidlist file, new mail files, etc." In my case, Dovecot *is* creating new index files based on dovecot-shared, but dovecot-uidlist and individual message files don't completely match the permissions/group template. Specifically, dovecot-uidlist isn't taking the group from dovecot-uidlist, and individual messages files don't seem to be honoring dovecot-shared at all (group or permissions). [Dovecot] assertion failed

I installed dovecot on a RH9 server this evening, via an RPM from atrpms.net (dovecot-1.0-0_34.rc15.RHL9.at.i386.rpm). The auth portion is working perfectly, as I'm using it to do SMTP AUTH with my postfix 2.3.5 installation. I have configured it to provide imaps. [Dovecot] Correct usage of NFS mounted Maildirs

Dovecot 1.0RC15 running on Fedora Core 5 kernel 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5smp. A SLES10 server (kernel 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp) has the home directories on an ext3 partition mounted with options (rw,acl,user_xattr,usrquota) which is then exposed as an NFS mount with server side options (rw,no_root_squash,no_acl,async). The home directories include Maildirs to which postfix delivers. The Fedora Core 5 dovecot&postfix machine then mounts this NFS mount with options (rw,hard,intr) Dovecot variables: mmap_disable=yes lock_method=dotlock default_mail_env = maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/usr/local/dovecot/indexes/%u (only one dovecot server and wanted to see if local indices helped) I didn't turn off the attribute caching of NFS since I only have one dovecot server, I think the wiki said it was safe to leave on in this case. With this configuration, I am seeing a lot of NFS Stale Filehandle errors, even after moving the index files to a local disk. Does anything about my dovecot config provide any clues as to what I might have done wrong? The NFS mounts are completely stable everywhere except within the Maildirs. From the shell, I can run a loop to call 'ls' 1000 times outside of a Maildir and it works fine. Inside a Maildir, I will get Stale NFS Filehandle errors before long. Does this sound like it could have something to do with my Dovecot config, given that it is happening even after I moved indices to the local disk (still getting stale filehandle errors on files like dovecot-keywords). I performed the following procedure: - shut down dovecot - did a rm-rf Maildir on my test account - unmounted the NFS mount /nethome/facstaff - remounted the NFS mount /nethome/facstaff - set the index files to be local in dovecot.conf and created that directory (/usr/local/dovecot/index/) - sent a few test mails to the user (to recreate the Maildir) - started dovecot - logged in (via Thunderbird) to account through dovecot. - read test message - deleted test message - opened shell to dovecot server - cd'ed into user's Maildir - ran 'ls' a few times. Got Stale Filehandle errors after a few. - back in Thunderbird, tried to read/move/delete other test mails, got the above errors in the log. If it's not a dovecot issue I know it's off-topic, but has anyone else seen similar? I might be imagining this, but I think the problem started when I moved from SLES9 to SLES10 for my fileserver (newer kernel, newer version of NFS, perhaps an incompatibility here?) Thanks, Fran

[Dovecot] Custom mail directory with LDAP

For certain users, I have their mail boxes under /srv/mpop/<username>/Maildir. For the rest, I have their mail boxes under /srv/vmail/<username>/Maildir. mpop/ users are stored in LDAP, vmail/ users are local users so I discard the idea of set a fixed mail_location. In dovecot-ldap.conf I can't get the picture to set /srv/mpop/<username>/Maildir as mail. I'd tried user_attrs = /srv/mpop/uid/Maildir=mail but watching the logs I saw that a '/srv/mpop/uid/Maildir' is queried to the LDAP Server. Would be nice to have a user_global_mail equivalent to user_global_uid for LDAP user lookups. Regards, maykel

Hi, I' m using dovecot v1.0.rc17 on a Centos 4.4 linux box with maildir format. Linux box mounts two LUNs of our Storage Area Network. LUN(a) has been mounted on /home with linux quota enable (small in size , but faster than LUN(b)) LUN(b) has been mounted on /archive with linux quota enable (big in size, but slower than LUN(a) ) I want to create two different private namespaces for our users. The first namespace is used for users' current mail (INBOX,Trash,Sent ....) and is located on faster disk (LUN(a)) The second namespace is used as mail archive. User drags his mail from first namespace to the folders located on the second namespace. Got most of my install woes sorted out. Have Dovecot running on two servers, one for my standard imap deployment, and one for my webmail server. I'm getting a lot of messages like this when my palm Treo syncs. Anyone have any idea what I have set wrong? [Dovecot] dovecot-auth file descriptor usage

In dovecot-auth (rc15) we experienced problems when the file descriptors reached 256 (due to a Solaris fdopen() call described previously). The issue was that there was one file descriptor being used for every imap-login and pop3-login process (in our environment of SSL-only that means one for every active IMAP and POP connection). Mods were made (and appear in rc16) to close out the descriptor in question after using it during authentication (as I understand it). However, I am still seeing plenty of file descriptors left open in rc16 (one per session). [Dovecot] Dovecot cannot find passwd-file

Posted this once before, but am still having problems. I have dovecot 1.0 rc15 running with postfix 2.3 on a SLES 10 server. With local user and /etc/passwd /pam authentication my local user can retrieve mail. I am now adding a virtual domain and have postifx relaying correctly. I want to have dovecot pull passwd and userdb from two files. When setting passwd-file to /etc/dovecot/passwd the system states that the file does not exist but it does. It does not appear to be a permissions issue; is this a path issue relative to chroot? Would appreciate some input; I have found others with the same issues but have not seen a solution posted. Hi, I have site w. around 7000 users, most of which have some procmail rules (theres even .procmailrc in /etc/skel with rule to put spam into spam folder). Afaik dovecot's deliver doesnt understand procmail rules, so i'd like to ask if its possible to configure procmail so it saves mail using deliver, without modifying users .procmailrc Thanks for any pointers, Vaclav Hula

I think the index corruption may be caused by Tbird's message filtering - I'm asking it to filter certain messages from INBOX to subfolders. When the error occurs, Tbird pops up an error message saying it can't connect to the mail server, but I don't lose any messages it seems. Hi all, ive seen a few segfaults in RC15. It's hard for me to reproduce but I was able to get a core when it happened with one of our customers. RC15 FreeBSD 4.10 X86 NFS/NetApp It's squirrelmail/webmail client. Can't reproduce it, cant turn on dovecot.rawlog because I dont know in advance which customer will hit this. [Dovecot] imap over ssh won't work

Hi, Using version 1.0.rc15 I'm trying to let Evolution connect with IMAP over SSH. When run from the command line, this is what I get: ssh host dovecot --exec-mail imap * BAD [ALERT] imap binary must not be started from inetd, use imap-login instead. ssh host MAIL=/root/Maildir/ /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap * BAD [ALERT] imap binary must not be started from inetd, use imap-login instead. When I run the same commands directly on "host", I do get a PREAUTH prompt (Logged in as root) and when I look around I find exactly the same syntaxis. Does anybody have a clue why it doesn't work? [Dovecot] IMAP folder watching plugin request

Hello Timo and list, I'm pretty sure this has been asked before but would it be possible for a generic folder watching plugin to be distributed with Dovecot? My intention for this is to be able to integrate a spam filter into dovecot. Filtering would be performed on delivery and spam put into a spam folder and then if mail was moved into or out of the folder the filter could be retrained. [Dovecot] Weird indexing problem between Thunderbird and Dovecot

Folks - I just ran across this problem; not sure how it originally happened. I noticed that Thunderbird was displaying the wrong message body when I selected a message. I tried several actions to clean up the problem (stopping dovecot and thunderbird, removing all .thunderbird/pref/ImapMail cache data, removing all dovecot index and uidlist files), to no avail. Then I noticed that somehow a core file had made it into my main inbox. I surmise that dovecot saw it as a legitimate email but thunderbird refused to count it (or some permutation thereof). (The core file had been renamed "core,2u" IIRC). Anyway, removing the offending file and (again) all cache files seems to have solved the problem. Just FYI. -- Mario

[Dovecot] help with deleted segment of email when connecting Outlook?

This group was so helpful last time I am hoping someone can HELP! We have qmail / dovecot running IMAP and a user who had all their email in their non-Outlook client (Thunderbird?). We installed Outlook 2003 and configured it with IMAP and all their email EXCEPT a three week block showed up. The three week block of email is not on their desktop and even worse, isn't on the server / in qmail - its totally gone. Does anyone have any idea of why or how this would have occured? And even better - is there any hope we could ever find this email (its not on a backup)? Hopefully, Lisa
