[Dovecot] Help on dovecot, imap, maildir and subfolders

I have Fedora Core 2 and dovecot-0.99.10.5-0. I've done nothing to configure it but it seems to have found the Mail dir in my home directory ok and I can connect using IMAP. But I can't create subfolders. If I right click on inbox, there's a 'New Folder...', but if I create one then right click on it, no more 'New Folder...'. [Dovecot] failed to create storage data

Hello, I have a problem. I get the message 'Failed to create storage with data' I have 2 emailaccounts which are working perfect and that worked fine. But now I want to add another account and now it said 'Failed to create storage with data' What is the problem? I have the same rights on the directory and it worked first fine. I didn't changed it. Can any one point me in the good direction? I use dovecot with mysql and postfix. thanks in advance, Alex

I've spent most of the morning looking through the archives. Great information, however, I'm still unable to get my issues figured out. I believe I am missing something quite simple. From what I have read, I want to use maildir, mainly because it will allow the use of subfolders for my clients. My clients are running Mail.app (mostly) on 10.3 clients. I'm planning on using imap and my clients must be able to create sub folders to organize their email. I'm running into a couple problems. First, when I send an email to myself I see in the procmail log that it writes that message to: Folder: /Network/Servers/milhouse/Users/jpbuse/Maildir/new/msg.ZAgKB However, when I send a message to another user on the same server it writes the message to: Folder: /var/mail/someuser I don't understand why the home directory changed. I don't believe I have anything custom in my account vs anyone else. My second issue/question.. how do I get Mail.app and SquirrelMail to see the email now that is not no longer in ~/mail ? Home directories are in this format on the server: /home/users/j/jp/jpbuse Users are authenticated via LDAP and their home directory actually is: /Network/Servers/milhouse/Users/jpbuse I have a symlink that takes care of this and from what I can tell, works just fine. Changed the following line in /etc/dovecot.conf: default_mail_env = maildir:%h /etc/procmailrc looks like: # .procmailrc PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin MAILDIR=$HOME/Maildir DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/new PMDIR=/tmp/procmail LOGFILE=/var/log/procmail # Use SpamAssassin INCLUDERC=/etc/mail/spamassassin/spamassassin-spamc.rc dovecot-0.99 procmail-3.22 sendmail-8.13

[Dovecot] can't get md5 stored passwords to work

In my mysql database everyone has plain passwords. I set the password don my account to {PLAIN-MD5}md5sum but when I go to login it wont let me. But I can log in with "{PLAIN-MD5}md5sum" it's like it ignores the whole {scheme} thing. So I changed my dovecot-mysql.conf to: default_pass_scheme = PLAIN-MD5 In the password field for my username I just used the md5sum. I stopped dovecot and killed all remaining processes and then started it. But it doesn't try to do md5 it is still doing plain text. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I looked and there are no compile time options that I need for this to work... Dovecot Version 0.99.13

Hello, I have got a problem ir dovecod.conf. I would like to use %d in default_mail_env = maildir:/var/mail/vhosts/%d/%u/Maildir but %d seems to be empty. I need it for Postfix virtual domains. If I use default_mail_env = maildir:/var/mail/vhosts/DOMAIN.ORG/%u/Maildir mail folders could be accessed. I wonder, where Postfix virtual domains need to be passed to Dovecot? more config info: auth_userdb = static uid=100 gid=100 home=/var/mail/vhosts/%d/%u auth_passdb = passwd-file /etc/dovecot/pass Thanks in advance, M.

http://dovecot.org/test/ I'm not sure if this was test71-specific or if it also happened with test70, but anyway IMAP process was hanging in some situations (I think POP3 hang was fixed though? :). So, fixed that.

[Dovecot] Virtual users with sendmail ...

A quick search of the Wiki for the term "sendmail" reveals zero hits. Are all Dovecot users just sufficiently enlightened that they don't use sendmail? :-) Anyone have any tips (other than to not use it)? Thanks, /jordan

[Dovecot] Script to convert mboxes to maildirs?

Does anybody know of a script of a simple method of converting mbox mail stores to maildirs? I'm moving from an old pop3 system to imap and after installing about half our office with mboxes have found that mbox does not support subfolders which some people like to use. Is there any simple way of converting? I can go to each individual account and "manually" convert swaping data around with Firefox, but I was wondering if there was an easier way. Hi, I'm having problems setting up a dovecot1.0 stable on a Debian-amd64 server.
