Hey, is http://www.dovecot.org/patches/1.0/quota.tar.gz supposed to work with maildir quota's for virtual mailboxes? Using it with dovecot-lda (cvs) results in DSN Your message was automatically rejected by Sieve, a mail filtering language. [Dovecot] Dovecot, Outlook Express and new accounts

I have come across a strange situation, involving new accounts. I am running Dovecot 0.99.10-5 on Fedora Core 2. Dovecot is configured to use pam for authentication, and the dovecot pam service is configured to use pam_mkhomedir. When an account is created and the user logs in through SquirrelMail, there is no problem. The standard folders are available - Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items and Trash. When logging in through Outlook Express first, it gives the following error:- The server did not respond to this IMAP command before the connection was terminated. Configuration: Account: mail.server Server: mail.server User name: username Protocol: IMAP Port: 143 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 800ccc0f A packet trace shows the following:- <<< * OK dovecot ready. >>> 008E CAPABILITY <<< * CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SORT THREAD=REFERENCES MULTIAPPEND UNSELECT LITERAL+ IDLE CHILDREN LISTEXT LIST-SUBSCRIBED STARTTLS AUTH=PLAIN <<< 008E OK Capability completed. >>> 008F LOGIN "username" "password" <<< 008F OK Logged in. >>> 008G IDLE <<< + idling >>> DONE <<< 008G OK Idle completed. 008H LIST "" "*" Connection to host lost. My suspicion that Outlook Express is not intelligent enough to create the folders, although the sudden connection drop might indicate a bug. If it is not a bug, is there a workaround? [Dovecot] 1.0alpha2: how to reject specific users?

Hi, In Qualcomm's qpopper, you can specify a list of users to reject at authentication, even if they are otherwise valid, by putting them in a file (/etc/pop.nonauth). I use this to occasionally ban users who bang on the system needlessly until they Get a Clue. I looked thru the wiki.dovecot.org/Authentication pages and didn't see anything like this feature. Does it exist in 1.0? BTW, running 1.0alpha2 in production since Sunday night, working great. Zero core dumps, only minor chatter about "Corrupted index cache file" in the syslog, no problems. [Dovecot] Failed authentication to a mysql database (bug or PEBKAC?)

Hi, dovecot has a little crazy behaviour connecting to a mysql db: if you specify "127.0.0.1" as host instead of "localhost" it seems to work, also with a password. BUT, if you assign host=localhost without a password, it works too (as Ger Visschers says).... One more question: how I can specify more different mysql-db conteining different users? I try in the following way: passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql_django.conf args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql_debord.conf } and also: passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql_debord.conf } passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql_django.conf } but it always seems to remember only the last args value and it tries to connect only one db... bye jigen -- jigen <jigen(a)metalabs.org> MeTA~LAbS

Hi Im new to dovecot and am looking for some options in the /etc/dovecot.conf to make dovecot a bit more verbose in terms pop3 usage, What ip a user is coming from? How many mails the user downloaded? Timing? Errors occurred while downloading mail?? Is this all possible with dovecot?

It's a true testament to brilliant componentised design and Unix philosophy. Configuration made easy because of the way the file is parsed and a single point of startup make it ridiculously straightforward (and lovely) to administer. But of course, we all already know this ... I'm sorry that I can't provide traces at the moment, I'm working from an optimised set of binaries. (-O3 -march=i586 -fomit-frame-pointer) GCC 3.4.4, Gentoo X86 2005.0, Linux 2.6.13, Glibc 2.6.5. Pegasus Mail 4.30B1 is the client on Win32. Dovecot is still Alpha2 (I will upgrade when Gentoo has updated their ebuild). Of course if you advise I'll look at rebuilding newer versions or patched versions with(out) debug symbols. 1. When I attempt APOP login of any variety on the POP3 server auth dies with signal 11. passwd-file is of course listed as a password database, alongside shadow. I get back "-ERR Internal authentication failure - please try again later." or something like this and all subsequent authentication in that session won't work (of course, auth is dead). The password entry is in /etc/dovecot.secrets (perms=0700,uid=0,gid=0) and looks like: username:{PLAIN}cleartextpassword 2. Umask setting gone strange. I set it, per example comment, to "7077" rather than default of 0077 (just to be precise...). When directories are subsequently created, user owning it doesn't even get read/write permissions (just x) and group gets rw but not x! It has not even to do with my system umask (022) set by login. I've set it to 0000 for now in dovecot (/etc/skel has .mail put in people's homedirs with 0700, so there's no worry, but of course I'd like to see that one fixed). [Dovecot] a few questions about my experience with alpha1

Hi all, I've just switched from 0.99.10.6 to alpha1 on a Solaris 9 system, and I have a few questions: 1) I'm using "verbose_proctitle = yes" but I don't see the special username or IP address information in the output of ps. I've used: ps -fu dovecot ps -ef | grep dovecot /usr/ucb/ps aux | grep dovecot The process table simply shows the /usr/local/sbin/dovecot, dovecot-auth, and imap-login processes. Is there something else that I need to do, or is there a special way that I should use ps? 2) After sending dovecot a HUP signal, the logs will report something like: Warning: SIGHUP received - reloading configuration And everything seems to work fine. However, *sometimes* after sending a HUP signal, logging will stop indefinitely. Has anyone else noticed anything similar? 3) We use UW in production, and I'm new to any real use of namespaces. Almost all of our clients use the root "~/Mail/" to find their folders (in $HOME/Mail/) and their INBOXes are located in $HOME/.inbox. A few people actually find their folders with the direct path Mail/foldername. So, I'm trying to configure Dovecot to work with any of these roots / prefixes: ~/Mail/ Mail/ "" (empty/blank) I'm using the namespace configuration below, and it seems to work with any of the above prefixes. However, the logging that I see makes me wonder if I'm doing it the best way. Note the attached log file. By the way, is there any real difference between the use of %h/Mail and the possible use of ~/Mail in the location fields above?
