Hello, I'm just setting up a new server and wanting to use MySQL for user authentication. Here is what I have: Fedora Core 5: 2.6.17-1.2145_FC5 Dovecot v1.0.rc2 (RPM install from atrpms.net) MySQL v5.0.22 SquirrelMail v 1.4.6-7.fc5 ...Running on a Dual XEON machine I've added the following to dovecot.conf: auth default { passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot-mysql.conf } userdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot-mysql.conf } The rest of dovecot.conf is standard. /etc/dovecot-mysql.conf has: driver=mysql connect = host=127.0.0.1 port=3306 dbname=maildb user=root client_flags=0 password_query = SELECT password FROM users WHERE id = '%u' user_query = SELECT maildir FROM users WHERE id = '%u' (I've run the SQL queries within mysql and they give the right results) When I start Dovecot the log shows: dovecot: Jul 11 12:47:25 Info: Dovecot v1.0.rc2 starting up dovecot: Jul 11 12:47:27 Info: auth-worker(default): mysql: Connected to 127.0.0.1 (maildb) When I try to log in using SquirrelMail, it takes about 3 seconds, then I get dovecot: Jul 11 12:48:00 Info: imap-login: Aborted login: user=<andrew(a)mail-test.aaisp.net.uk>, method=PLAIN, rip=::ffff:127.0.0.1, lip=::ffff:127.0.0.1, secured ...So, no log of it trying MySQL... And SquirrelMail then says: Unknown user or password incorrect Any ideas of what I'm missing? Thanks! What are the reprecussions of a corrupted index? [Dovecot] no protocols inhibits dovecot --exec-mail

Hi, Running the current debian unstable version (1.0.beta2) dovecot tells me: $ /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail imap Error: No protocols given in configuration file Could this be changed? I don't need dovecot listening on any ports but would still like to allow this usage... Or should I configure protocols but no listen addresses instead? [if so the debian package needs an update because it filters out the case of no protocols and doesn't start dovecot in that case] johannes

[Dovecot] dovecot-lda and sendmail.

I'm trying to use dovecot-lda with sieve support using RC6 and sendmail. I followed the instructions at http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA but could not get them to work with sendmail. Could anybody help? Anybody have an example sendmail macro(s) and/or working sendmail config?

[Dovecot] Duplicate e-mails

Hi, I've got Postfix/Dovecot config mail server, POP3/mbox, and a few users are complaining about duplicate e-mails. User connects with Outlook 2003 to Dovecot to download mail. If you check the mail logs for that message ID, only one copy is delivered to his mailbox. Also, verified that the client is set-up to NOT leave a copy of the message on the server. He downloads a copy of the e-mail once, and then 2 minutes later when his client reconnects to check for mail, he gets another copy of that e-mail. It's not a consistent problem. I check the dovecot logs, and see his client connecting and disconnecting, and always deleting the same number of e-mails it downloads. Is this a network issue or a config issue? The only other thing to note is that it's usually an e-mail sent to a group list that he's a member of. And I've set-up the owner-list setting in the aliases file. So I don't think that's the problem. If anyone can shed some light on this issue, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

[Dovecot] Something other than dotlock for uidlist locking?

If I read the code correctly, only dotlocks are supported for locking of dovecot-uidlist. And I don't see any settings in the config file for it. As it turns out, dotlocks are very slow on my system, due to their implementation via hardlinks. Would it be possible to support other locking mechanisms for locking of the uidlist file? -jdb

[Dovecot] Newbie Questration

Actually, it is a frustration: The client does not work, have tried Opera mail and Outlook, to receive mail. the client can send, but not receive. I know the mail is sitting in the user account Maildir ready to be picked up. Dovecot "compiles" fine. What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me, I know it is something simple. I have racked the net trying to find a solution, but no 2 mail setups are the same. My setup is the simplest I can make it. I have Postfix and Dovecot installed on Linux. All recent versions. Plain text authentication off shadow passwords and login user accounts. Mail is configured as Maildir, IMAP. As you can see below, I have turned logs on and there is nothing in them that shows an error. I am on a real static IP behind a firewall. I have opened the SMTP and IMAP ports. BTW, Postfix can send and receive local and outside. IMAP does not work to/fro outside or locally. I have also logged into Dovecot like so: telnet localhost imap 1 login test testing 2 select INBOX It lets me login and I have tried it with root, which it rejects and with another account which works. It selects the INBOX and I hit the return key multiple times to exit because I don't know what else to type. So, it looks like it is authenticating. Postfix is working fine, it can send and receive mail both locally and the outside world. It puts the messages in the Maildir directories as it is supposed to.
