I have two RHEL4 email servers running postfix/MailScanner which use dovecot. They work great. But during bootup the nfslock script in my init.d loads rpc.statd and calls portmap to get a port number. Portmap keeps giving rpc.statd the imaps port number (993). I then have to stop my mail server services, manually start dovecot, then restart the mail server services and everything goes merrily on its way. Stopping the mail server services drops rpc.statd from using port 993(according to netstat -tlnp). This allows dovecot to take it by default. How to I reserve imap and imaps ports exclusively for use by dovecot. The imap and imaps ports are listed in /etc/services. [Dovecot] Getting two mails.....

When I receive a mail that is addressed to my email address and also with a cc to a mailinglist I subscribe to, I get two mails, which I guess is expected... But I have just moved to Dovecot from Cyrus, and Cyrus seems to know that this is the same mail, so only one of those two mail is stored on the imap srv... Is there some option I am missing in Dovecot or isn't this possible using Dovecot? [Dovecot] Creating "special" folders?

Is there anyway to make dovecot create Sent, Draft, etc folder automatically? Or is this the job for a MUA? [Dovecot] pop3_lock_session and NFS

Hello, I need an advice about POP3 and NFS with Dovecot 1.0 (as 1.1 is still tagged beta) . I currently have all messages and indexes under a NFS partition . I thus turned cache off using actimeo=0 . Of course, my current architecture does not allow me to keep the same user on the same dovecot server. Now, I have some NFS issues with high percentages of getattr() . If I understood well, the cache must be disabled, because of the case of 2 differents computers could log on the same time and mess up the index file . If I use the directive pop3_lock_session and enable it, that should block conccurent pop3 access using a lock file . Can I consider it safe enough to turn on the NFS cache (ie removing actimeo=0) ? Thanks in advance Salim Ps: For you info, we use dovecot here for a big cable broadband ISP, with 2,000,000 mailboxes using 30 dovecot POP3 servers,10 dovecot proxy servers and we are really happy with your nice software, we expect a lot from 1.1 .

[Dovecot] virtual user login

Hi, I have server with multiple virtual domains and this server also accepts mail for the local domain. I'm using postfix and have the following setup for a virtual sales(a)domain.com mapped to custsales@localhost I was wondering if there is a way to login with the virtual email address, for example sales(a)domain.com? I would also like to still be able to login with the local user as well. TIA, P

[Dovecot] convert plugin

hi.... i have problems with convert plugin, because he delete the message maildir inbox (i dont know this is't right)... i set dovecot (Dovecot v1.0.7) to listen with pop and imap protocols... for example.... if user1 sends to user2 a msg via pop3 or imap, i can see the msg in user2 imap account, but when i read messages from user2 pop account, i see the message, but the message was deleted from imap account.... ¿:(? these are my settings about this issue: mail_location: maildir:/export/home/vmail/prueba/%n mail_plugins(imap): quota imap_quota convert mail_plugins(pop3): quota convert pop3_uidl_format(default): pop3_uidl_format(imap): pop3_uidl_format(pop3): %u plugin: quota: maildir convert_mail: mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/export/home/vmail/prueba/%u maybe i not understand yet wich if this plugin do :( thanks!!! :)

[Dovecot] Limiting the size of index files

Is there a way to limit the amount of disc space dovecot will use for its index cache? Other than putting that on a separate partition, I mean. We host our mail data on the file server, however, the index files are located on local discs on each of the mail servers and seem to grow without bounds. We're above 250M now and soon /var will run out of space. Thanks for any help.

[Dovecot] Problem Running Dovecot 1.0.5

Hello, When trying to run dovecot I am getting the following error :- Error: Error in configuration file /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf line 923: Unknown section type (section changed at line 923) Fatal: Invalid configuration in /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf The following section is at line 923. userdb static { args = uid=5000 gid=5000 home=/var/spool/vmail/%d/%n allow_all_users=yes } It seems to be that dovecot does'nt understand the section, but I configured with support for static userdb and this was confirmed before compilation took place. OS is Solaris 9. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, David.
