Hi, Very new to dovecot and to using POP3/IMAP (from this perspective anyway). Essentially, this user is a virtual user. I have it so that the system user, vmail, is the basket into which all virtual users e-mail goes. If my understanding is correct (and please enlighten me if it's not), mail aliases are setup to "map" aliased names into a real account. From there, dovecot will return e-mail to the virtual user based upon the "To" field of the e-mail, correct? I have some aliases in my sendmail config that do just this. From the error below, it would seem that dovecot is actually authenticating the virutual user "jdunkin" in this case, but can't get some directories made. I've seen on my FreeBSD system that each system user has a "mail" file in the directory, /var/mail/<userid>. What needs to be done further? Also, how do I ensure that virtual users are able to get their mail as well as system users? After reading of the problems encountered on other systems, the 1.1 beta 13 version (main part as well as Deliver) seems to inexplicably be running just fine under OS X 10.5.1 for some reason. :^) Jerry

[Dovecot] Time just moved backwards

This wins the 2007 award for strangest (or most amusing) log message: dovecot: Time just moved backwards by 13 seconds. This might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill myself now. It does, unfortunately, leave dovecot dead, which was pretty mysterious to me. Maybe it could re-exec instead?

[Dovecot] b13 Compile error on Solaris 10 (Sparc)

All betas so far have compiled without problems on my setup, but something breaks in b13. This problem occurs with both make and gmake. Below are outputs from make and gmake. [Dovecot] donations / wishlist

Since some people don't like Paypal and other people have been telling me for years to create Amazon wishlist, I figured I'd finally do it. http://dovecot.org/donate.html now contains URL to the wishlist. Currently it mostly contains all kinds of TV series DVDs (feel free to laugh at what I watch :), but I also managed to remember a couple of books I wanted.

Ok, this turned out to be SELinux. If I turn off SELinux then I can start Dovecot using init.d. So now I tried to send a test mail using telnet: # telnet localhost smtp Trying 127.0.0.1... [Dovecot] auth-master permission error

On F7, I get to where I have Postfix and Dovecot installed and configured, postfix check runs fine, but when I try to start Dovecot I'm getting a permission error. I forgot to mention that when I try to start Dovecot that I get this message: dovecot dead but subsys locked I'm thinking it is just a side effect of the permissions issue. Anyway I tried setting perms to 777 on /var/run/dovecot but this didn't help. So still needing some hints. A clue. [Dovecot] building dovecot-sieve against installed dovecot

Hi Timo, may I request once more to consider the attached patch for dovecot 1.1, it enables the sieve plugin (incl. sievec and sieved, needed for pysieved) to be built against an installed dovecot package, if --enable-header-install additionally installs the liblib.a library in the same directory as dovecot-config. I have included this patch in the pkgsrc dovecot 1.1 package a while ago. Geert

[Dovecot] global and per-users sieve filters

Hi Timo, I'm curious about such thing, currently if user have their own filter global filter no more take a place. Is this behavior changed in 1.1 or maybe in future? I'm unsure if this is 100 sieve related or more like Dovecot handling so fixing can be easily can done.
