[Dovecot] Problem with virtual mail user login users uid not permitted

Hello, I am trying to run exim 4.68 and dovecot 1.0.13 on Solaris 10 x86 5/08 using dovecot lda and sieve with virtual users and domains, tls and ssl. At the moment certificates are from my internal CA Exim and Dovecot, dovecot lda and dovecot sieve were downloaded and installed from Blastwave. Mail delivery (ie from Exim to dovecot via dovecot lda) is working correctly but when I try to access mail using imap from a client (eg. Thunderbird) the login fails. My mail user for accessing virtual user mail is vmail (uid=954, gid=954). I have attached the messages from dovecot.log and the output of dovecot -n below as well as contents from the passdb file. [Dovecot] Time moved backwards

Hello, I would like to suggest a change in handling of 'Time moved backwards' problem. Right now dovecot just dies. So, the scenario: 1) Colocation server is shut down for some reason. The internal time drifts. 2) Server is started again. 3) Dovecot starts successfully. 4) In about a minute, NTP daemon feels confident about adjusting the system time. 5) Dovecot sees the changed time and dies. 6) Admin has to notice that, login and restart Dovecot manually. I suggest that Dovecot simply terminate the current connections (causing the client to reconnect) or -- if the time change is really that much of a problem -- to restart itself automatically. Maybe a config option could be introduced. Best wishes Eugene

[Dovecot] Unknown internal error

Hello, I just found this message in our dovecot logfiles: "Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error" Should I worry about this ? There are no complaints yet (although it is not limited to one user). It seems to occur with different clients (Apple/MacOS mail, Windows/Thunderbird, Pine). We're running dovecot 1.0.10 on Solaris 10 with mboxes (NFS) and local index storage. There are no such messages before the upgrade (from version 1.0.5). Regards. [Dovecot] Mailbox problem

Greetings, I am using dovecot as our POP3 and IMAP server and Squirrelmail for the Webmail. Some of our users get the error message below when trying to access the mailbox using Webmail: "ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "INBOX" Reason Given: Internal error occurred. Error report written to server log. [2008-05-12 09:08:39] To resolve this issue, I need to open the /var/spool/mail/<username> (mailbox of the user) and delete an empty line that is inserted at the top of the mailbox file. I am running dovecot-0.99.11-8.EL4 on CentOS release 4.6 (Final). Kindly provide suggestions on how to resolve this issue. Thank you, Sadiq

Hi to all, I'm a sys admin in a college, and we're using Dovecot as IMAP/POP3 server and delivery; we're also patch dovecot to add managesieve capability. I've a question: I've read on dovecot's wiki, that is possible improve the performance on maildir files by adding ,S=<size>,W=<vsize> fields on filename. How is possible to do that ? I've search on all the wiki and on the mailing list, but I didn't find nothing about modify the maildir file name. Someone can help me ? Best regards, Marco

[Dovecot] Access to the root of a shared mailbox

I have an issue with shares mailboxes Example : I have 2 users A and B. A must have an access to all mail of B So i create a public namespace namespace public { separator = / prefix = Public/ location = maildir:/home/users/B/Maildir } It's OK for the subfolders, but not for the root (B's inbox, the most important !) it's seems to be like http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2007-October/025965.html it's the only feature that prevents me to migrate from Courier-IMAP !

Hi All, I'm trying out the imapsync migration tool, migrating user mails from cyrus IMAP to Dovecot IMAP. In order to avoid knowing about each of the users password, I use the cyrus admin user in the cyrus end. Is there such a thing as the dovecot admin user, or is that simply the root user? Any input appreciated /Lars
