auth: Error - Request timed out

Hello List, i use dovecot 2.2.22 and have the same problem described here: https://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2017-November/110020.html I can confirm that sometimes there is a problem with connection to mysql-db, but sometimes not. Reasons for failing are still under investigation by my mates. My current main problem is, that this fail seems to be a one way ticket for dovecot. Even if mysql is verifyable working again and waiting for connection dovecot stucks furthermore with errors like this: May 29 07:00:49 hostname dovecot: auth: Error: plain(mail(a)example.com,xxx.xxx.xx.xxx,<HGI4FVFt2Oy80j3P>): Request 999.7 timed out after 150 secs, state=1 When restarting dovecot all is immediately working again. Is there a way to tell dovecot to restart auth services or reinitialize mysql-connection after these hard fails? I could insert "idle_kill = 1 mins" into service auth and service auth-worker, but i dont know if this would work. Unfortunately i am not able to reproduce this error and there are always a couple of days between errors. Thanks, Hajo

Dovecot Submission Proxy Auth

Hi, Dovecot 2.3.1 (8e2f634). Could not get Dovecot to forward the (plain) authentication to the SMTP server using submission. Reason why I need it is sender spoofing (do not want my employees to send messages in behalf of me). In exim I can disable sender spoofing with the authenticated user. When sending through dovecot, exim either does not accept the email (need auth) or relay every sender address (because relaying from localhost). Am I missing a setting or do I need any additional field in the (MySQL) user_query/password_query to forward the password? Hello! dsync SSL still doesn't work for replication, so I've disabled it and tried to sync without. But I have a problem with temp directory. Is it possible to change path to temp folder? I don't want to set permissions but change temporary folder for replication. Limit IMAP/IMAPS listening IPs

Hello list. I am running dovecot v2.2.13 on debian 8.8; I tried to add a "address =" statement for only localhost and one private IP, but then I got a complaint from system: dovecot[20515]: Error: systemd listens on port 143, but it's not configured in Dovecot. Error message upon boot up: doveconf: error: t_readlink(/var/run/dovecot/dovecot.conf) failed: readlink() failed: No such file or directory Starting dovecot. Dovecot appears to start correctly There is a link in the "/var/run/dovecot directory for dovecot.conf" lrwx------ 1 root wheel 35B 2018-04-10 10:21:52 EDT dovecot.conf@-> /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf This error message has only started since the update to the latest version of dovecot. OCSP Stapling and Certificate Transparency

Hi, For CAs that do not include a signed certificate timestamp in their newly-issued certificates, does Dovecot support either OCSP stapling or the Certificate Transparency TLS extension? If the TLS extension is supported, how does the admin configure the timestamp for each certificate? I’m wondering if any MUAs will follow Google’s lead and insist on CT. In a distributed storage scenario we might build a dedicated pool for that and tune the pool as more capacity or performance is needed. auth_policy in a non-authenticating proxy chain

Hi, I was looking into the new Authentication Policy feature: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Authentication/Policy I had kinda hoped that I would be able to enfore this in a proxy running in front of several backends. This proxy does not authenticate. It use "nopassword". But I realize that the "succes" reported in the final authpolicy req. (command=report) is not what is actaully happening on the IMAP protocol level, but rather the result of the passdb chain in the proxy. (I should probably have predicted this, it's kinda reasonable). However... since the proxy use "nopassword", ALL passdb lookups result in "success", so the proxy will never report an authentication failure to the authpolicy server. This, of course, forces me to do the authpolicy check on the backend with a shared state, but It would still have been nice to have the proxy being able to do the first "command=allow" req. and reject attemps already there even though the backend does "command=report". /Peter

Dear list, We are encountering troubles with dovecot using LDAP userdbs on Debian stretch (but if I’m reading valgrind correctly, we can reproduce this with vanilla dovecot master). Minimal reproducer below. While testing an upgrade to Debian stretch (dovecot-core=1:2.2.27-3+deb9u1), auth-worker has stopped working. We are using two LDAP user databases; one which is iterable, and one which is not (for reasons; I think this is not relevant; if it is, we’re happy to elaborate). The issue seems to be present in any LDAP userdb iteration handling, but it only seems to cause a crash in certain conditions which seem to be reproducibly caused by our setup for some reason. We have attached mail.log contents for the respective valgrind runs. This seems to affect at least 2.2.27 onwards. We can reproduce the crash with our production data 100% of the time. The valgrind error is present even with very minimal setups (see below). Unfortunately, I haven’t been able so far to create an LDAP database which produces the crash as reliable as our production database does (which we cannot share for obvious reasons). Minimal Reproducer of Valgrind error: - Install dovecot 2.2.27 from debian stretch, or compile from master. - Install valgrind - In conf.d/10-auth.conf, disable auth-system.conf.ext - In conf.d/10-auth.conf, enable auth-ldap.conf.ext - Set contents of dovecot-ldap.conf.ext to: hosts = localhost base = dc=nodomain - In conf.d/10-master.conf, in section "service auth-worker", set executable = /usr/bin/valgrind /usr/lib/dovecot/auth -w (path may differ on your system) - Install an LDAP server with a database for dc=nodomain; this is trivial to do with debian: Simply install slapd and systemctl start slapd. - Start dovecot - Run doveadm user '*' - You should find the error in the mail.log.
