I've got a new Dovecot error (well, new to me, at least)! I ran tail /var/log/mail.err and got the following: net_connect_unix(/var/run/dovecot/stats-writer) failed: Permission denied I checked the file, and it's owned by www-data and the www-data group, with read and write permissions for owner and group... just like I have specified in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-master.conf. I can't understand why permission is denied when the file permissions appear to be correct. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Ubuntu 20.04 Dovecot 2.3.7.2 Ken

Hi, I've seen a few emails over the years related to this error message, but they are typically associated with doveadm. In my case, it's related to dovecot itself. I've just set up dovecot-2.3.20-1.fc37.x86_64 on fedora37 and unable to receive mail. The main config was copied over from another dovecot system on fedora37 with virtually identical settings, including the same SSL cert. I saw that the notice was added to the dovecot/documentation Git repository in April 2023, but I couldn’t find any further information there or the main branch of the dovecot/core repository. Maybe, the code for 2.4 / 3.0 has not made it into that branch or repository yet. SIS sounds like a neat concept and I would like to use it, but obviously I do not want to use a soon-to-be-deprecated feature in a completely new deployment. I have postfix + dovecot server. Mail for local users are saved by dovecot lmtp. Recently I got some messages from postfix: --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- 4NQ07L4h4LztXXr: breaking line > 998 bytes with <CR><LF>SPAC --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- This is because postfix has configured with default value lmtp_line_length_limit (990).
