Hello, I've found a crash in a very specific setup. A dovecot server with imapc connection needs to receive an email with no body contents for the intent of generating a preview/snippet. It crashes somewhere deep in the jungle of istream and snapshots. I've included a script which sets up the systems to reproduce the crash. I've tested this with several versions. 2.3.16 doesn't seem to be affected, but 2.3.20 and 2.3.21 are affect. OS: Ubuntu 22.04.1 Dovecot: 2.3.16 (7e2e900c1a) When trying to enable the “imap_metadata” plugin, I get the following error: Plugin 'imap_metadata' not found from directory /usr/lib/dovecot/modules I have searched high and low via Google, StackOverflow and even ChatGPT (haha) but I cannot seem to find the package that provides the plugin. Does Dovecot have to be built from source for this plugin to be included? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Timo confirmed this type of message (see below) breaks iOS mail clients regardless of the IMAP server used. So it is almost certainly a client issue. I'm trying to setup a dovecot 2.4.0 imap server and have it work with Thunderbird. Dovecot 3.21.1 -> 2.4.0 SegFault

Hi guys, There seems to be some issue with Dovecot deployed on alpine. More specifically, the dovecot.config file is not properly read. I have run some debugging and the SegFault is returned in the function below: #0 0x000055555556779b in config_parsed_get_setting () No symbol table info available. #1 0x0000555555563708 in config_dump_full () No symbol table info available. #2 0x000055555555c814 in main () No symbol table info available. This was also addressed by alpine here: https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/issues/17050 Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for looking into it, Cata
