While digging through the code I remember having seen something like an (yet undocumented) "update_query" for SQL (and I guess something similar for the LDAP faction as well)?! Can that be used to augment the "doveadm pw" function to actually /set/ the password for a given user instead of just "calculating" the hash, so that an operator can copy&waste it into the respective passdb? Just curious ... I guess it would be nice to have "doveadm" become as central point of administration (yeah, yeah - we would still need a "create user" and "delete user", etc. -- but we would at least be further on our way, wouldn't we? :-) Just 2¢ from Clemens

[Dovecot] SQL insert?

Hi, I want to log some informations about a mail in a mysql database when the mail is saved to inbox (for a groupware). I use Dovecot 1.2.16 and the log message "msgid=<xxx>: saved mail to inbox" is generated in deliver.c. I find all the needed data in that file. But I'am not sure how to use the functions in sql-api.h or sql-api-private.h to send a simple SQL insert statement to the database. Can anyone give me a hint how to do this? best regards, Oliver

[Dovecot] Dovecot and loading OpenSSL libraries

Hi, I am running into a interesting issue with Dovecot. I compiled Dovecot 2.0.7 with LD_RUN_PATH set to /xsys/lib and it was able to find and link against the correct OpenSSL libraries (/xsys/lib), the generated Makefile look OK. Here is a snippet of the SSL cflags and libs. SSL_CFLAGS = -I/xsys/include SSL_LIBS = -L/xsys/lib -lssl -lcrypto -ldl After I compil, install and run Dovecot I get the following error. ssl-params: Error: dovecot/ssl-params: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory It seems that Dovecot can't find the SSL libraries, even if I set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. I always assume that the Dynamic Loaded (dl) library would pickup LD_LIBRARY_PATH. If I add /xsys/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and regenerate my /etc/ld.so.cache file, Dovecot works without any error messages. [Dovecot] maildir-dbox hybrid

Hi! How can I convert old mailboxes in "maildir-dbox hybrid" to a current dbox? I have a Dovecot installation that was upgraded from 1.2.x to 2.0.x. Having used the old convert plugin during the 1.2-times I am now stuck with mailboxes which are partially converted (maildir-dbox hybrid state). On <http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Upgrading/2.0> it just says to contact the mailinglist. :) | If you have any Maildir files in your dbox, you need to convert them | somehow (contact Dovecot mailing list) Regards, Roland. V2 of dovecot has had the following releases (to recap) 2.0.0 2010-08-16 2.0.1 2010-08-24 2.0.2 2010-09-08 2.0.3 2010-09-17 2.0.4 2010-09-26 2.0.5 2010-10-01 I am on FreeBSD, and the port committers want to wait till dovecot V2 "stabilizes" prior to adding it to the FreeBSD ports base. So, my question is, respectfully, is dovecot V2.0.5 stable enough for prime-time on a busy ISP mail server? I'll install it myself independent of the FreeBSD ports tree if so. Thanks,

Hi Timo.... I Modify the plugin autocreate, that create and subscribe a mailbox to user. My modification consist in do the inverse, if my user don't have permission to create and subscribe a folder, the plugin remove and unsubscribe. My function is called in the same place that create and subscribe is called, just seeing if my flag is "create or delete". My function i copy from doveadm + autocreate create mailbox. The delete is made, and works, but i got some errors before the delete. [Dovecot] sieve fileinto public shared mbox?

Could someone verify if 1) sieve can fileinto shared public mbox? 2) if it can, what I might be doing wrong? [Dovecot] Use a different usename than the recipient address (that require a lookup)?

Hi there, I am integrating Postfix and DoveCot, both use LDAP to look up user/email address info. My question is this: can I create a user "jsmith" to get all emails with the recipient address: dovecotdemo@domain? Because of using LDAP, I need to do a lookup to know that the user "jsmith" is getting emails for "dovecotdemo@domain", NOT "dovecotdemo" (there will be no such user). In postfix's master.cf, I can use LDA to deliver to DoveCot, which needs to know the user name where the message should be delivered to. But I would not know that at the time because I need to do a lookup in LDAP. Does the DoveCot delivery agent have any way to allow me return a different user name after LDAP lookup? I would not want to modify a couple of files to accomplish that, because I would have to do that for every email address created. Hello All (and Timo in particular :-) -- While reading through some of the conversations on this list over the past two weeks or so, I always thought "how would <this> particular problem affect you and how would you address it in your environment?". This results in a few suggestions, or "thing to wish for", which I thought others may find useful, hence I'm posting this here. 1) the whole "post login scripting" is a mighty tool, yet it presently lacks a few more words in the documentation, i.e., the syntax of the corresponding config files isn't /entirely/ clear to me. Yes, I can replay the examples given, but I'm not fully sure, what happens when, etc. I'm perfectly willing, though, to contribute to that, by documenting findings in the Wiki2 (I'm just using 2.0.x, sorry). I'd appreciate a few more examples, so if anyone has a funny, working configuration, making good use of "post login scripting", I'd appreciate it, if you'd "show" them! :-) Anyway: A bit more "control" over PLS would be nice. For example, I'd like to have a script invoked every time a new "session" starts (new IMAP/POP3 connection from a unique ID), as many clients open multiple connections at once and usually I wouldn't want to see the second, third, nth connection - just the first. "Nice" would also a "post logout scripting" feature - again: Both for "all" connections, as well as just for the "last" one. Yes, this certainly requires a bit more discussion, I know - but I hope to trigger just that with this message! :-) 2) The "local x.x.x.x {" feature is very nice, yet it could use some "polishing", I guess. Inclusion of ports and wildcards for either addresses or ports, for instance. I'm imagining a syntax like this: local 1.2.3.4 { ... } like now to remain backward compatible local 1.2.3.4:* { ... } same result, just different new syntax -> don't care about port local 1.2.3.4:4711 { ... } add port restriction local *:4711 { ... } don't care for address, but match on port and -of course- (yes, I am really USING IPv6), the use of "[2001:xxxx:yyyy::zzzz]" instead of "1.2.3.4" in the examples show above. If one would like to become really funky, the optional "/xx" addition to specify a prefix-length would leave no more wishes open. (Well ... maybe the use of "names" derived from DNS instead of literal addresses, of course :-) [if this feature becomes clearer to me, I'd -again- be happy to help document it within the Wiki2] 3) The "iterate_query" in the SQL interface (I assume, there is something similar in the LDAP realm?) could be supplied with a few (optional, of course) "%x" variables, i.e., "%s" could deliver the "service" again, like with the other queries. This could tell the database engine, what the "show me all users" query is being used for ("quota", "expunge", ... basically all functions of doveadm, where you can supply a "-A" parameter). A "%{env:HOST}" could be used to tell the DB interface, which node of a multi-node installation is "asking". I.e., if you have your users distributed over multiple nodes, each one might want to perform "cleanups" only for their own users, saving a lot of bandwidth for unnecessary NFS traffic, etc. That's it - for now. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with dovecot, let me make that very clear here! :-) :-) :-) Clemens
