Hello, I'm new here, and I'm from Germany, so please be patient with me because my English is not so good ;) I am searching for a Step-to-Step Guide to first-configure Dovecot. I want to create virtual Users wich can logon to my Server to a Webinterface to call theire mails. I think IMAP is the right protokoll but it should be safe, so i think IMAPs is better. The quota plugin in 2.0.beta6 leaks 2KB "quota settings" pools. Here is a patch to plug this leak, assuming you intended the caller of quota_init to retain ownership of the quota_set. [Dovecot] Proxy Access (Manager/Secretary) Best Practices?

I've mostly got our dovecot+postfix+SOGo+openldap open source groupware replacement working the way I want it to; we're replacing GroupWise in our organization and I'm thrilled to be doing it. I'm supporting about 1,000 active staff users (and another 6,000 student accounts). I've got e-mail and calendar sharing working, and it does what it says it will do, but it is (go figure) different in concept from Proxy access under GroupWise. In GroupWise, I can give my secretary proxy access to my account and she can read all of my folders, see my calendars, and send e-mail as me. To someone that receives an e-mail or appointment request from her while she's proxied to me, there's no distinction at all. Is there a way to mimic this sort of functionality with the tools I've chosen? I've figured out that I can add additional 'mail' attributes to the secretary's record, and those addresses are available as drop-down choices in the SOGo web interface, but with the secretary's name and not the manager. Any advice will be much appreciated. And many thanks to the developers involved for writing and making available such amazingly good software. Eliminating the license fees we've been paying to Novell is allowing me to save a technician that surely would have been eliminated in budget cuts this year. Dovecot-2.0.beta6 sometimes terminates client connections and reports these errors: Error: Corrupted dbox file /Volumes/Mail/joe/storage/m.1 (around offset=6216579): msg header has bad magic value Error: Corrupted dbox file /Volumes/Mail/joe/storage/m.1 (around offset=6216579): uid=0 points to broken data at offset=6216579 Warning: mdbox /Volumes/Mail/joe/storage: rebuilding indexes (I set mdbox_rotate_size = 200M.) These did not appear with beta5.

[Dovecot] More Dovecot 2.0 permissions issues

Hi Timo, ok, using the latest 2.0beta6... I can't figure out the settings for the log file to have the correct permissions. When the log file is created, it is created owned by root and 0600 permissions, which doesn't allow the lda to write to it if I use different users and groups for that main config... If I then chmod the log file to 666, then everything is happy, but again, if that log file is removed and created by dovecot, it will create it back with 0600 and the lda will error and not deliver mail because of it... [Dovecot] Postfix, MySQL, Dovecot LDA and alias domains

Hi there, I have a postfix/postfixadmin/mysql/dovecot install that was using 'virtual' for the LDA. I tried the 'dovecot' LDA to enable Sieve but ran into trouble with aliases. With domain "some-domain.com" being an alias to "somedomain.com", mail sent to *(a)somedomain.com would be delivered to the Maildir fine, but the 'dovecot' LDA tossed "unknown user" for anything sent to *(a)some-domain.com (the alias to the other domain). So the question is: do I add a second "user_query" in dovecot.sql, or is there an "alias_query" directive, or similar? And does anyone have a query that would point an alias domain to the real maildir? - Darek

[Dovecot] Outlook problem

Hi, I have some problems that every time I start Outlook and retrieve my e-mails and then later tries to do it on my iPhone for example, I get some sort of problem that I can't get the mails. I searched around on the wiki and found the "outlook-no-nuls" and "outlook-idle" options, but where am I suppose to add them? I only have "pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv" in my "protocol pop3 {}" and it didn't work to add it to a new line there. Thanks, Patric
