Hello, setting auth_cache_size to nonzero enables caching of authentication data. The cache hitrate may be logged by sending SIGUSR2 to dovecot/auth process. Is it possible that dovecot logs statistics on regular intervals ? [Dovecot] manipulating mails

Hi all, sorry for my inexperience. I am still learning. I searched for a while but found nothing useful. I am looking for the best way to manipulate headers, bodies, attachments, locations, folders and/or flags while using deliver and e.g. perl. In other words manipulating the whole mail in respect of the requirements of the LDA, MUA and User. I see two diffent ways. As i understand I can work via IMAP and pre-auth sessions, which keeps track of the index files from dovecot and handles complications with users already logged in. Can I use e.g. some perl imap module -> download the mail -> change it -> upload it again with all other parameters unchanged and no confusions on the user's side? This way I think its complex to rewrite the mail header/body/attachments as desired and keep everything else, eg times, flags, headers. the goal should be close to invisibility for a user. This maybe leads to open pre-authed sockets/ports and a lot of work. The other way would be to directly modify the file system. This keeps everything (i think), but changes mtime and needs some index file and MUA cache update. For performance reasons I would like to not use the index-automatism of dovecot but do it manualy at runtime of some script. How does the index update gets initialized from the outside? Same for the client cache. Is there some command available or is a IMAP login my workaround? This maybe leads to password problems or open pre-authed sockets/ports. Last question: Is it possible to add some received-tag to a mail-header when appending mails via imap to the mailbox? Can anyone turn my head in the desired direction? Thanks in advance Sven

[Dovecot] version 1.2.11 creating symlink loop for config file

What is the following at the end of "main_init" in dovecot 1.2.11 (src/master/main.c) intended to accomplish? base_config_path = t_strconcat(settings_root->defaults->base_dir, "/"PACKAGE".conf", NULL); (void)unlink(base_config_path); if (symlink(configfile, base_config_path) < 0) { i_error("symlink(%s, %s) failed: %m", configfile, base_config_path); } } With our compilation parameters and runtime setup it ends up removing the working base_config_path file and making it instead a symlink to itself. (I.e. a non-working loop). Strangely, the one instance of dovecot continues and seems to mostly work. But (for now) I need to put back the proper dovecot.conf before I can restart it. I think that would be the expected result if strcmp(configfile, base_config_path) == 0. Is that in fact not expected to be the case? (See my initial question). I did not expect self-modifying of configuration like this. (See my initial question). Pattern matches (e.g. "config_path") find no apparent mention of this in recent postings. [Dovecot] imap login fails with "no auth attempts"

Hi, I'm currently facing a strange behaviour of dovecot 1.2.10 (and before): after some days the login into our mail servers stops working for imap-connections. pop3-users can go on with using dovecot. Looking into the logfile I can only find: [...] imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts) imap-login: Disconnected: Shutting down (no auth attempts) [...] as a hint what is maybe happening. After restarting the system is working quite well again for some time. There is no extra load and not other special at the server running. The authentication is handled over mysql. I successfully got imap/pop3 working using 2.0b4, now im trying to also get lda working with exim but im totally confused. I dont know what should run as what user, getting confused on auth sockets, what to call them or set or whatever. My exim runs as user/group mail/mail, dovecot has user dovecot but user mail for mail_user/group settings. At one point running deliver -d user -f user gave me an error userdb lookup not possible with only userdb prefetch. [Dovecot] pigeonhole: naming and versioning

Hi Stephan, many thanks for all the work you do on the new sieve parts to dovecot. As a (downstream) packager I have some questions: a) pigeonhole is called a working title - will the final release be called something else like dovecot-sieve again? b) The versioning seems to go from 0.1.15 to 0.1.13. From a packager's POV it would be better to allow a natural version upgrade path. Perhaps the version in hg is just not updated? The reason for these questions/clarifications are that Angel and I are packaging dovecot 2.x betas and matching sieve plugins for allowing more people to a broader testing before the projects go gold. Hi all, I'm testing a dovecot-2.0-beta4 and it is great so far, except that I can't get the sieve plugin for the LDA configured. It doesn't find the user's homedir and uses /tmp instead. Thus it never finds any sieve scripts.
