[Dovecot] Testing 2.0b3 - problem with pop3
by Odhiambo Washington 07 Apr '10

07 Apr '10

I am testing the version on FreeBSD 7.3-PRELEASE (I doubt it's the issue) and I am having a problem with pop3. Here is what I see in the log when I attempt to connect to port 110: Feb 22 18:15:03 master: Warning: SIGHUP received - reloading configuration Feb 22 18:15:08 pop3-login: Panic: file login-settings.c: line 216 (login_settings_read): assertion failed: (input.roots[count] == NULL) Feb 22 18:15:08 master: Error: service(pop3-login): child 70115 killed with signal 6 (core dumped) Feb 22 18:15:08 master: Error: service(pop3-login): command startup failed, throttling And the output of doveconf can be seen at http://62.8.64.102/~wash/2.0b3.txt I've basically made my best effort to reflect the settings I had on 2.0b1 into this version. What could the problem be? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

[Dovecot] Timeout Value
by JackyC＠umac.mo 07 Apr '10

07 Apr '10

Dear All, I constantly encounter 'dovecot-auth', 'login-imap', 'login-pop3' and 'imap' processes consume 100% CPU. I run 'ps' and found those hanged up processes were running for a long time. I am wondering whether dovecot.conf has some configuration parameters that timeout those processes (or kill those after certain period of time). I am using dovecot 1.2.11 on RHEL 5.3. Many thanks ~~~ Yours Sincerely, Jacky Chan

[Dovecot] expires
by ben＠electricembers.net 07 Apr '10

07 Apr '10

When the expire cronjob actually finds a folder needs pruning, does it then purge the row from the database? Or could it update the row with the "new" oldest message's expiration time? I guess I can test this for myself. I did just learn that emptying the Trash removes the row from the expires db. . . I had misconfigured expires here, and think I fixed it, but in checking things over, I do find some "over age" files, and their users don't appear in the expires db. So I'm assuming it's because expiration worked on that folder some time ago, and no "new" messages have been delivered there since then to reset the expires db? (Sometimes I wish there wasn't the db, and we could just have a nightly cronjob do all the work on all users' Trash, Spam, Virus folders -- where we pretty much expect to be constantly pruning, or shaving as it were ;) Benjamin

[Dovecot] PIGEON HOLE - am I being stupid?
by corpus.defero 06 Apr '10

06 Apr '10

Hi, I'm trying to compile dovecot-1.2-sieve-0.1.15 on a CENTOS 5 box. Using: ./configure --with-dovecot=/usr/local/etc and with: ls -Al /usr/local/etc/ total 100 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 49576 Apr 6 12:25 dovecot.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 410 Apr 6 12:25 dovecot-db-example.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 782 Apr 6 12:25 dovecot-dict-sql-example.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4986 Apr 6 12:25 dovecot-ldap-example.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5097 Apr 6 12:25 dovecot-sql-example.conf But it bails with: appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool dovecot-config not found from /usr/local/etc, use --with-dovecot=PATH to give path to compiled Dovecot sources or to a directory with the installed dovecot-config file. configure: error: dovecot-config not found What am I missing here?

[Dovecot] Managing IMAP ACL from script
by Неворотин Вадим 06 Apr '10

06 Apr '10

I need to change ALC for mailboxes from a script on my server. As I understand now I can correctly change ACL only via telnet using IMAP commands. And moreover I need to know user's password for it. Is there any plans to add inheritance of ACL and ability to manage it directly from a server? And if it is in which version? Will 2.0 fully support ACL? Now I use Dovecot 1.2.10.

[Dovecot] Dovecot index storage question
by Stewart Dean 06 Apr '10

06 Apr '10

I currently run DC V1.2 for some 4K accounts using mbox folder format. I am migrating to maildir. I have a separate filesystem for the indices. Currently, the data there amounts to 4GB. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the storage used will change with maildir folder formatting. Will more space be used and if so, could you rough guess what the increase might be? -- ==== Once upon a time, the Internet was a friendly, neighbors-helping-neighbors small town, and no one locked their doors. Now it's like an apartment in Bed-Stuy: you need three heavy duty pick-proof locks, one of those braces that goes from the lock to the floor, and bars on the windows.... ==== Stewart Dean, Unix System Admin, Bard College, New York 12504 sdean(a)bard.edu voice: 845-758-7475, fax: 845-758-7035
