Hello, we found dovecot down on one of our servers, with this error in the log: dovecot: 2009-07-14 04:05:04 Warning: SIGHUP received - reloading configuration dovecot: 2009-07-14 04:05:04 Error: Temporary failure in creating login processes, slowing down for now dovecot: 2009-07-14 04:05:04 Fatal: listen(143) failed: Interrupted system call we can reproduce this error with this tight loop: while date ; do kill -HUP $(cat /var/run/dovecot/master.pid) ; sleep 15s ; done after a while dovecot dies with the above error message. We are using # dovecot --version 1.0.15 in particular, Debian package with version "1:1.0.15-2.3" . This started since yesterday, when we upgraded to the latest Debian Lenny point release. The situation is rather problematic, and we'd like to here from you if there something we can do to fix it; if there's something you'd like us to do, just ask :) Thanks in advance, Sandro

[Dovecot] Sylpheed-claws and virtual mailboxes

Hi! Has someone encountered the following problem? What am I doing wrong or does someone know a workaround? Dovecot 1.2.1 on Debian unstable, two namespaces: namespace private { prefix = location = maildir:~/res/Maildir:LAYOUT=fs inbox = yes list = yes } namespace private { prefix = gtd/ separator = / list = yes location = virtual:~/res/Maildir/gtd:LAYOUT=fs:INBOX=~/res/Maildir/gtd } The problem: cur, tmp, new maildir folders get created within the folder gtd when it is opened by Sylpheed-claws (3.7.1). Subfolders in gtd holding the dovecot-virtual files are not recognised as mail folders at all, they show up but do nothing. Other clients (I have tested thunderbird, evolution) work as expected: they show the folder gtd and the sub-folders perform searches. Thanks in advance, tb

[Dovecot] Problems with ioloop on MacOS

I found a problem with maildir++ quota. When dovecot creates maildirsize file, it counts quota wrong. [Dovecot] [PATCH] include parameters can handle globbing

Hey guys, This patch will allow you to include different configuration files in the main dovecot.conf by using globbing [1] (like Apache for instance). !include = conf.d/*.conf !include_try = /etc/dovecot/extra* So with this you can split the dovecot.conf in different smaller configuration files. It's more the debian way to do that. But it's very handy if you have to generate dynamically parts of dovecot.conf based on a centralized main configuration (imagine you have 10 servers and you want to change the default quota for instance, do a script which update that based on the data contained in SQL/LDAP/XML/whatever). I designed this for my personal use with dovecot 1.2.1. It does the job. But I warn you :) My code may hurt your eyes. If so either close them or improve/fix my code or ... "Hare Krishna" [2] :) The include features has been done and almost kept hidden by Timo :) I've just add the globbing feature to !include and !include_try. The patch will modify - src/lib-settings/settings.c - dovecot-example.conf $ cd dovecot-1.2.1 $ patch -p1 < includepatch.diff It has been test with GNU/Linux Debian dunno if it compiles on FreeBSD/AIX/MacOSX but everything is POSIX compliant so... it should :) Cheers, Thomas [1]: Thanks Aria for the tip about the glob() function. Hello! I'm try to build additional 2 private namespaces namespace private { prefix = 1/ #location = ~/mail/1 list = yes subscriptions = yes } namespace private { prefix = 2/ #location = ~/mail/2 list = yes subscriptions = yes } First private namespace contains inbox and mail_location not defined (selects in sql query in userdb). Is dovecot have variable which contains current mail_location like current home? And if i have location = ~/mail/2 and subscrive to namespace in my mail client - i have error like mailbox does not exists. Hello, I'm using dovecot as a mail relay so that I can back up my providers IMAP mail locally. I'm impressed how easy this was to set up, but I'm having a quirk that I would like help with, if possible. There are many weak links in my set-up chain, if you will, but I think I've narrowed the problem. I'll describe my set-up anyway. I'm running dovecot 1.1.4 on ubuntu 8.10. I have a shared NAS drive running a NFS server. I have chosen to store the .indexes and .control directories on the NAS also, since I want a set-up that will remain backed up and easily replicated if I (accidentally) erase the ubuntu install in the future. I'm using imapsync to copy messages from my email provider. It works once only, and subsequent attempts seem to hang when accessing any local dovecot mailbox folders that were changed last time. I have succeeded in using Thunderbird to access the dovecot mailboxes once. I know the paths are being found, because I can 'list' mailboxes when I telnet locally: b list "" * * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "." "Trash" * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "." If I try to select a full folder such as ".Sent" then the process just hangs. The logs don't mention anything interesting, even though I have enabled debug_on and auth_debug. However, I attached a trace to the 'imap' process and got something interesting. I think maybe the lock process is failing for some reason? The trace above seemed to fail with the dotlock, and proceed to fcntl?
