[Dovecot] fts squat and dovecot-shared
by Anton Yuzhaninov 24 Sep '08

24 Sep '08

It seems, that dovecot-shared ignored by fts squat and dovecot.index.search/dovecot.index.search.uids created with wrong permissions. This makes squat unusable with symlinked shared maildirs. -- WBR, Anton Yuzhaninov

[Dovecot] Can't move mail items to Inbox
by Phillip Smith 24 Sep '08

24 Sep '08

Hi all, Trying to setup Postfix / Dovecot / Fetchmail to collect all my mail centrally on my home server and serve it out by IMAP. Everything is working, using Maildir format except I can't move mail from a sub-folder to my Inbox. Example: I send a test message to myself. It gets picked up by fetchmail, and delivered to /home/user/Maildir/new by postfix. Dovecot serves that out to my client. I can then move that message from the Inbox to a subfolder, but then I can't move it back to the Inbox. I don't get any error messages or anything - it just doesn't happen :( Any help and advice would be great. root ~ # dovecot -n # 1.1.3: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf listen: 192.168.31.3 disable_plaintext_auth: no login_dir: /usr/var/run/dovecot/login login_executable: /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap-login login_greeting: Dovecot server.local READY login_max_processes_count: 8 mail_location: maildir:~/Maildir auth default: passdb: driver: pam userdb: driver: passwd root ~ # dovecot --version 1.1.3 Cheers, ~p

[Dovecot] One fs with quota, one without: incorrect data shown
by Laurent Blume 24 Sep '08

24 Sep '08

Hello all, I'm using Dovecot 1.0.15 on a Solaris 10. There are two different FS in place for IMAP: /var/mail for inbox /export/home for the mail folders The first doesn't have quota, the second does. However, I've noticed that Thunderbird does display quota information on the inbox (that doesn't make any sense, the values are incorrect). The same incorrect values are shown for folders as well. I tried the following configurations, but without success, the result is always the same: quota = fs ---- quota = fs:INBOX:mount=/var/mail quota2 = fs:Others:mount=/export/home ---- quota = fs:Others:mount=/export/home Any idea what I'm doing wrong? [Dovecot] Debugging password schemes
by Ian R. Justman 23 Sep '08

23 Sep '08

Hi, all. I managed to get my new password scheme routine written, but a couple of things: 1. The example module lacks an init routine. Since I used it as a model, my module also lacks one. As such, my newly-built module is seen but not registered. In the meantime, I moved the routines into password-scheme.c instead where I had access to all the MD5 routines already set up for me. 2. Once in password-scheme.c and modified to the point where it builds without warnings or errors and it doesn't gag on itself, it doesn't seem to work properly. What's the best way to debug password-scheme.c so I can see what's going on so I can fix things accordingly? I have to "manually" break apart the value stored in a database a bit differently than other salted values (it's using salted MD5 values a bit differently than normal). The password format from a Post.Office server, but apparently, Netscape Messaging Server uses this same format. Thanks! --Ian. -- Ian R. Justman UNIX hacker. Anime fan. [Dovecot] Small deliver bug
by Robin Breathe 22 Sep '08

22 Sep '08

Setting "mail_location=maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=~/index:CONTROL=~/control" (or separating INDEX and CONTROL in general) along with "quota=maildir" (and or having a ~/.dovecot.sieve) appears to expose a small bug in deliver (version 1.1.3, but probably all). While deliver will create a missing INDEX directory, it throws an error if the CONTROL directory is missing, exiting with exit code 75 and the following message: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. [2008-09-11 12:30:13] The associated syslog error is: Sep 11 12:30:13 csmail2 deliver(88345678): [ID 994296 mail.error] file_dotlock_open(/users4/stu/78/88345678/control/maildirsize) failed: No such file or directory Sep 11 12:30:13 csmail2 deliver(88345678): [ID 702911 mail.error] Internal quota calculation error Sep 11 12:30:13 csmail2 deliver(88345678): [ID 702911 mail.info] msgid=<43435ee38b616bb360e98d1990ad8f6d(a)example.com>: save failed to INBOX: Internal error occurred. [Dovecot] %d is empty
by rihad 22 Sep '08

22 Sep '08

Hi, I'm a Dovecot newb playing with version 1.1.3 port under FreeBSD. After setting up dovecot-sql.conf for MySQL I can't check mail via POP3: ... password_query = \ SELECT CONCAT(username, '@', d.name) AS user, password \ FROM users u JOIN domains d ON u.domain_id=d.id \ WHERE username='%n' AND d.name='%d' AND active (with or without \ line breaks - same thing) rihad@rihad:~$ telnet nigar pop3 Trying 192.168.0.248... Connected to nigar.localnet. Escape character is '^]'. +OK Dovecot ready. user rihad(a)bar.com +OK pass 123456 -ERR Authentication failed. quit +OK Logging out Connection closed by foreign host. MySQL query log shows: 080919 21:19:51 4 Query SELECT CONCAT(username, '@', d.name) AS user, password FROM users u JOIN domains d ON u.domain_id=d.id WHERE username='rihad' AND d.name='' AND active Further investigation revealed that %u is just rihad and not rihad(a)bar.com. Any hints? TIA.

[Dovecot] Possible bug involving LDA and Namespaces
by Allen Belletti 22 Sep '08

22 Sep '08

Hi All, Yesterday I began experimenting with using LDA to do delivery. To begin with I'm using a .forward file entry for myself so as to avoid affecting other users. When "deliver" is passed an item to deliver, the following is logged: > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Info: Namespace: type=private, > prefix=INBOX., sep=., inbox=yes, hidden=no, list=yes, subscriptions=yes > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Info: maildir: > data=/home/cns/allen/Maildir > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Info: maildir++: > root=/home/cns/allen/Maildir, index=, control=, > inbox=/home/cns/allen/Maildir > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Info: Namespace: type=private, > prefix=INBOX/, sep=/, inbox=no, hidden=yes, list=yes, subscriptions=yes > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Info: maildir: > data=/home/cns/allen/Maildir > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Info: maildir++: > root=/home/cns/allen/Maildir, index=, control=, inbox= > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Error: namespace configuration error: > All list=yes namespaces must use the same separator > deliver(allen): Sep 18 19:28:52 Fatal: Namespace initialization failed Note that we have an "extra" namespace defined as this seemed to be required in order for Mac Mail.app to function properly. That namespace is defined with "list = no" as can be seen in the following dovecot.conf excerpt: > namespace private { > separator = . > prefix = INBOX. > inbox = yes > } > > # For Mac Mail.app > namespace private { > list = no > separator = / > prefix = INBOX/ > inbox = no > hidden = yes > } Nonetheless, when deliver starts up it believes that both namespaces have "list = yes". Is this potentially a bug in the way deliver reads the configuration file data? I've not looked into the code yet as I imagine that getting up to speed on it might take some time. As another data point, actually logging in via IMAP and running "list "" "*"" shows only one namespace. Any advice here would be appreciated. [Dovecot] Adding new password schemes?
by Ian R. Justman 22 Sep '08

22 Sep '08

Hi, all. I was curious how difficult it would be to add a new password scheme to Dovecot? I have to transplant mailboxes from one machine to another, the older machine running Post.Office from now-defunct Software.Com, which was bought by OpenWave, then discontinued. Apparently, Netscape's mailserver offering from the day also supports this scheme. There's code out there that was incorporated into OpenLDAP a while back which can read this scheme, but I need to use MySQL as a source for this. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. --Ian. -- Ian R. Justman UNIX hacker. Anime fan. Any questions? ianj (at) ian-justman.com
