[Dovecot] local rimapd not working with 1.1.1, fatal error

Hi all, I just upgraded a couple of Fedora 9 workstations to try out 1.1.1 over NFS'd homedir's and I'm having trouble running dovecot in the same configuration we were with 1.0.14. It's fairly simple, we use pine/alpine and set a couple of variables to fork rimapd directly: * smtp-server=host (for the main mail machine) * user-domain=host (same) * set the inbox-path={localhost}INBOX * ssh-command=%s %s %s %s * ssh-path=/etc/rimapd In rimapd we specifiy: exec /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail imap 2>/dev/null In dovecot.conf we specify: protocols = imap listen = localhost mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=<path>/index/%u:CONTROL=<path>/control/%u namespace public { separator = . prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes } protocol imap { mail_executable = /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap mail_plugins = quota imap_quota } ...and away we go. This enables us to run pine and dovecot locally on the workstations since our home directories are all NFS'd to a central server, essentially giving us Maildir access anywhere local. This has been working great for a long time, and we still use it with 1.0.14, but as soon as I upgraded to 1.1.1, pine is telling me: "rsh to IMAP server timed out" "localhost,143: Connection refused" I know this is very pine specific, but our pine configuration hasn't changed, only dovecot has. I check the obvious answers like perms, and ensured the same dovecot conf exists, and it does. I'm pretty stumped. It's obviously the newer dovecot causing problems, but I don't know where exactly. If I run "/usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail imap" manually, i still get the normal IMAP session. The only error I see anywhere is this in /var/log/maillog: Jun 24 15:36:28 host IMAP(user): : Fatal: io_loop_handle_add: epoll_ctl(1, 2): Operation not permitted That doesn't really tell me much though. Any ideas? Is dovecot taking different arguments now so my rimapd line isn't working properly? Any help would be appreciated. Hi here's a little trick to migrate from courierimapsubscribed to subscriptions: create a file /usr/local/bin/courier-dovecot-subscribe-migrate like this: #!/bin/sh # WARNING: Be sure to use mail_drop_priv_before_exec=yes, # otherwise the files are created as root! if [ -e ~/Maildir/courierimapsubscribed ] then cat ~/Maildir/courierimapsubscribed | sed -e 's/INBOX\.//' > ~/Maildir/subscriptions mv ~/Maildir/courierimapsubscribed ~/Maildir/courierimapsubscribed-VIA fi # This is for imap, create a similar script for pop3 too exec /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap remember to chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/courier-dovecot-subscribe-migrate after in your dovecot.conf add: mail_drop_priv_before_exec=yes mail_executable=/usr/local/bin/courier-dovecot-subscribe-migrate reload dovecot and now on the first IMAP login (like via webmail) your subscriptions folders will be migrate to dovecot format. [Dovecot] deliver doesn't create home dirs

hello! i'm trying to setup exim + dovecot's deliver for virtual users in exim.conf: home_directory = "/var/mail/$domain/$local_part" command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver and in logs: No such file or directory: failed to chdir to /var/mail/symlink.ru/olfway so why it doesn't tries to create that dir? maybe some switch can be added? -- Pavel

Hello, I'm using dovecot version 1.0.13 on reiserfs on hardware RAID-0, but I'm getting the following error in the logs every time one user tries to access his old mails in the .Sent directory: dovecot: 2008-06-23 15:09:46 Error: IMAP(marek.chajecki): Invalid data in file /var/mail/Maildir/marek.chajecki/.Sent/dovecot-uidlist As a result he fails to get access to the emails in this folder. I've googled a bit and read that deleting the uidlist makes dovecot recreate it, but after some time the same thing happens. It's a new hard drive, so I don't think this is a hard drive fault. Some additional info: this server is being used by about 200 users who get about 100 emails daily each one of them. [Dovecot] Limiting SSL (external) access to certain users ?

I am looking for a way to limit outside access to the IMAP server to certain users only. Basic idea is to use two userdbs, one for SSL connections and one "internal" with most users in it. Is there a way to do this without running two dovecot configurations? Thanks for hints, Jakob

Ehlo all, I've been working on a migration of about 240K users from one server with qmail, courier imap, maildrop and ldap to postfix, dovecot, lda +sieve. Before the migration the server and the storage were always on high load. Before migration: Storage IOPs = 4600 Read average = 2800 Write average = 1800 Storage CPU (Raid5) Crl0 = 50% Crl1 = 50% Server Load = 120 %user = 35 %system = 60 %iowait = 5 %idle = 0 After migration: Storage IOPs = 3000 Read average = 1200 Write average = 1800 Storage CPU (Raid5) Crl0 = 40% Crl1 = 40% Server Load = 25 %user = 10 %system = 27 %iowait = 40 %idle = 23 And now the server responds so quickly to any imap command.
