[Dovecot] Windows Mobile and IMAP proxy

Hi, We are running Dovecot proxies in front of our Dovecot IMAP servers, and were having problems with Windows Mobile clients not being able to connect. The clients would send a LOGIN command, and immediately after the succes reply a LOGOUT command. It turns out the Windows Mobile IMAP client gets confused by the IMAP proxy first sending the command tag in the reply and then, in a seperate packet, the rest of the line. Although not being able to handle this looks like a very bad design to me (how can one ever expect to read a full line in a single read() call?) I fixed it in our Dovecot proxies because we do have clients that want to use it. Attached is my fix for the problem. Onno

[Dovecot] disconnect error

a user complain about suddent disconnect error from time to time (he's using pop3 with Apple Mail) Looking at dovecot logs I discover that, each time the error shows up for him, I have this : dovecot: pop3[95137]: Info: user=<dan(a)userdomain.com> Disconnected top=0/0, retr=0/0, del=0/4, size=127101 but all other "regular" pop3 session looks like this one : dovecot: pop3[94777]: Info: user=<dan(a)userdomain.com> Disconnected: Logged out top=0/0, retr=0/0, del=0/3, size=67947 What is the difference beetween "Disconnected: Logged out" and "Disconnected" and how can I solve this ? [Dovecot] Adding new storage backend to Dovecot

I'm exploring adding a new storage backend to dovecot, storing mail in some sort of database, and had a few questions. Hoping someone here might be able to help :) -Is all of the 'storage' specific code in housed in lib-storage/index? Would adding a new storage backend be as simple as recreating all of the public functions of the current /mbox or /maildir code such as they pertain to that storage mechanism? -Where is the particular storage method controlled? I've had a look around but can't seem to find where the decision to use the 'mbox' or 'maildir' code is. -Finally, if there isn't a filesystem associated with the mail storage area, obviously the index data code will need to change somewhere. Any ideas on the complexities of that? Thanks!

I'm having issues with moving mail via my iPhone. If I move a message from my Inbox to another folder, the mail gets COPIED...not moved. So it exists in my Inbox as well as the folder I moved it to. When I test on my iPhone to Yahoo's mail server, the moved process works 100%. Is there a Dovecot setting that needs to be tweeked or possibly another CentOS 5 OS setting? [Dovecot] IMAP clients generate user home folders one level higher than needed

Hi (Of course not the clinets generate the folders, dovecot does, but I wanted to have the title not be too long.) I am using static userdb: userdb static { args = uid=vmail gid=mail home=/srv/vmail/%d/%n } and I have configured the hostname in protocol lda. Now when mail arrives for a known virtual user, the home directory with all subdirectories is being created correctly unter /srv/vmail/$domain/$vuser. But when connecting from an IMAP client (I have tested Thunderbird and Outlook) a new home directory with apparently correct subfolders is bring created unter /srv/vmail/$vuser ! The connection works, I just don't see the mails which arrived since the client is mapping a directory one level higher than needed. Where do I have to look for the cause? I did not find anything reasonable yet. Thank you in advance, David

I have Dovecot 1.0.9 running right now and I'm looking to upgrade but at the same time re-compile with SSL support. Dovecot's been working great for me so far. When I try to compile I keep getting this at the end: Building with SSL support ........... : no Building with IPv6 support .......... : yes Building with pop3 server ........... : yes This is what my configure line looks like: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/dovecot --with-pop3d --with-ssl=openssl --with-ssldir=/usr/local/vps/sharedssl/openssl --with-passwd-file Am I not doing something right? Am I reading the configuration setup wrong? Any help would be great! Thanks.

[Dovecot] odd behaviour with antispam plugin

hey, in my dspam database there has been some odd behaviour: during training dspam had created an uid entry named by the local part of the email. i.e.: user1 I use a virtual setup using dovecot, postfix and postfixadmin. On my first try I set up a database for dspam itself and there this happened. After I couldn't figure out how to solve this, I merged the database into the postfixadmin database. But using just the username for identifying email adresses is a bit critical within a virtual environment with multiple domains, isn't it? if one would not merge the databases - how could he solve this problem?
