[Dovecot] quota calculating
by Scott Zahn 25 Jun '07

25 Jun '07

Hey everyone, Currently where I work we use qmail. Every time a message is delivered, qmail seems to walk through the user's entire maildir in order to calculate quota usage. Delivering messages simultaneously to just a few users who are allowed large maildirs (1-2GB) will bring our servers to their knees. Which brings me to dovecot. I use dovecot whereever I can, but haven't yet needed to set up quotas. I would like to migrate my servers at work to use dovecot, but have a few questions regarding quotas. Could someone explain how dovecot calculates quota usage on mail delivery? Also, is there anyone here on the list that uses quoatas on large maildirs (>=2GB)? How well has it worked for you? thanks, Scott

[Dovecot] LIST % not returning correct data?
by J.Wendland＠scan-plus.de 25 Jun '07

Hi list, I have namespace private { prefix = INBOX. separator = . inbox = yes } in an installation migrated from courier. I am testing with Outlook Mobile 5 (OM) which uses 'LIST "" %' to get the folder list. Now courier used to return * LIST (\HasChildren) "." "INBOX" whereas dovecot returns * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "." "INBOX" which is why OM failes to display any folder. Is this dovecot's failure or am I missing something here? [Dovecot] dovecot.conf authentication after Debian upgrade
by Didier Misson 25 Jun '07

Hello, I'm new on this mailing list. I run a Dovecot imaps server since several month on a Debian server. I just upgrade a Debian server from Debian Sarge --> Etch and I discover that a lot of parameters have changed (must be changed) in the dovecot.conf. I finally find an exemple an try to adapt it to our server. We never defined special authentification or password scheme. It was simple the "passwd". Dovecot is running, but impossible for users to connect :-( Actually, this is my dovecot.conf : ====================================== base_dir = /var/run/dovecot/ protocols = imap imaps protocol imap { listen = 127.0.0.1:143 ssl_listen = *:993 } # protocol pop3 { # # listen = *:110 # # ssl_listen = *:995 # # } ssl_disable = no ssl_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem ssl_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/dovecot.pem disable_plaintext_auth = no log_timestamp = "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S " login_dir = /var/run/dovecot/login #login_dir = /var/log/dovecot login_chroot = yes login_user = dovecot login_process_per_connection = yes login_greeting = Dovecot ready. first_valid_uid = 1000 last_valid_uid = 0 first_valid_gid = 1 last_valid_gid = 0 mail_extra_groups = mail # #default_mail_env = mbox:/var/mail/%u default_mail_env = maildir:~/Maildir protocol imap { imap_client_workarounds = outlook-idle delay-newmail netscape-eoh tb-extra-mailbox-sep } # # protocol pop3 { # # } auth default { mechanisms = plain ##### Didier Misson : must be check !!! #passdb passwd-file { #args = /etc/dovecot/pass #} #passdb pam { passdb passwd { } #userdb passwd-file { #args = /etc/dovecot/users #} userdb passwd { } user = root } plugin { } ===================================================================== in /var/log/syslog Jun 25 11:14:02 ks36586 dovecot: Dovecot v1.0.rc15 starting up Jun 25 11:14:53 ks36586 dovecot: imap-login: Aborted login: user=<sebastien-descy>, method=PLAIN, rip=62.235.215.24, lip=87.98.219.84, TLS Jun 25 11:14:59 ks36586 dovecot: imap-login: Aborted login: user=<dominique>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, secured Jun 25 11:15:01 ks36586 /USR/SBIN/CRON[16295]: (root) CMD (/usr/local/rtm/bin/rtm 41 >/dev/null 2>/dev/null) I hope somebody already solved this king of problem. So I got the same suggestion several times, and I upgraded to Dovecot 1.0.1. At 1:27am and again at 5:23am Dovecot stopped running. My cron was able to restart the service in both instances, but how do I debug why this is happening? Thanks!!! [Dovecot] Dovecot won't stay running
by Jon Slater 21 Jun '07

This weekend I upgraded my OS from FC4 to FC6. At the same time I updated Dovecot from 0.99 to 1.0.0. Now, dovecot periodically shuts off. It will run fine for several hours then just dies. Right now my solution is to run a cron every 5 minutes to see if it’s still running, and if not, re-start it. I’m also having trouble finding any sort of meaningful logs to tell me what’s going on. Where should I start? Thanks in advance! Jon No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.5.472 / Virus Database: 269.9.2/858 - Release Date: 6/21/2007 1:46 PM
